The Triplets · 2:16am Aug 21st, 2021
Hello, y'all! Welcome to my second blog.
If you're reading this, you may or may not have already read my latest story, The Definition Of Insanity, which, to my complete shock and joy, has become not only my most popular story, but has also been a huge hit on Fimfiction in general. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that three silly idiots I dreamed up in, well, my wildest dreams, would become so beloved by you guys. I'm honestly floored, and very thankful to all of you for liking what I write.
The point, what is it? Ah yes! A lot of people have been asking for more information on the the three Guards, as well as for more (mis)adventures with them. Rest assured, they WILL be returning soonTM. I already have great plans for their next adventure, and it's gonna be a doozy.
But until then, how about some character bios, as well as some background?
THE TRIPLETS:
Comprised of Corporal Plucky Guess, Private Samwise Tater, and Private Prism Rain, the Triplets are three Solar Guards who are, for all intents and purposes, the worst soldiers the EUP has in its employ. No matter how hard they try, they can never please their superiors, they are constantly picked on and teased, and are always given the crummiest assignments and postings known to ponykind.
They started off small, in separate sections and different platoons when they first began training. They quickly sunk to the lowest spot on the leader boards, never doing enough to get far and only doing the bare minimum to survive, beg, borrow, steal, and/or swindle their way into the Solar Guard. Plucky Guess, naturally, did most of the swindling, while Samwise was the "idea guy" who failed at being an idea guy, and Prism was the one who slept through artillery barrages and stand-to orders. Repeatedly. Nevertheless, to the dismay of their peers, they passed --- barely.
And so when the day came that they were finally given their first posting together at the dumping ground for terrible Solar Guards, Outpost 13, all their fellow Guards rejoiced, for surely that would be the last they would hear of them forever.
Oh, those silly Solar Guards!
After one year at Outpost 13, all three of the Solar Guards' worst had suddenly become something that nopony expected: a family, if not by blood. Sure, they hated each other's guts, and would routinely say so at every possible moment, but at the end of the day, all three of them knew that without each other, they were nothing. They each saw in each other a kindred soul, somepony who never quite belonged anywhere but would always be there when you really needed them. Outpost 13 never broke them --- it made them a unit.
Granted, that unit was still pathetic by Solar Guard standards, and they were still idiots, but hey, their loyalty to each other could never be denied from that point on. This, of course, led to lots of teasing and hazing by their fellow Guards once again, only this time all three of them were one singular target.
And so the legend of the Triplets began, so named by their fellow Guards because, despite coming from different backgrounds, cities, and families completely unrelated to one another, all three of them somehow had the exact same white fur and blue mane colors, as well as the exact same green eyes. Their only discerning features were their Cutie Marks, their voices, and their quirks.
Then, one day, while they were busy with their daily KP duties, a certain lilac Princess took notice of them from afar...
Corporal Plucky Guess:
Comically sadistic, completely cynical, unrepentantly evil, and utterly loyal to Princess Twilight Sparkle and his squad mates. He is the de-facto leader of the Triplets, mainly because his name was chosen at random from a hat from the start. He hails from Trottingham, and is obsessed with following orders, often to his own detriment. He also has a dark sense of humor, and often jokes about wanting to die or wanting to kill his squad, but he doesn’t really mean it (although he has confessed that if the payment was high enough he could actually be tempted to do it...). He has a Cutie Mark of a question mark with two spears crossed underneath it. To this day he has no idea what it means or how he even got it, nor does he really care.
Private Samwise Tater:
Plucky’s best friend and the “brains” of the Triplets, although he doesn’t have much more than the other two. He’s slightly more optimistic on life than the others, and is also slightly more sane than them as well. However, he often has very terrible ideas that have a basis in genius but then quickly get derailed by his own idiocy. He’s also prone to overthinking things, especially if they’re normal, everyday concepts (he once wondered why it was important to know why the chicken crossed the road). Nevertheless, despite his more positive outlook, he’s more than willing to trade insults and snark with his squad. Has a sliced potato as a Cutie Mark (which he believes symbolizes his affinity for growing them, cooking them, or shooting them out of a cannon), and was born in the lower levels of Canterlot.
Private Prism Rain:
The third member of the Triplets, and also the youngest (by one year) and physically strongest. Hailing from Manehattan, she’s an insomniac with a severe case of hypersomnia, which is a paradox that confuses most pony doctors. The end result is that she’s always tired and keeps trying to fall asleep, only to wake up moments later. She gets very jumpy at loud or sudden noises and often reacts violently to them, often with a buck or a punch aimed at the source (usually Plucky). She’s actually a fairly competent soldier when she’s awake or actually focused on a goal (which has consistently boiled down to beating the crap out of Plucky...sensing a pattern here?), but those instances are few and far between. She is also a lesbian, but has a terrible track record with getting mares to be with her, mainly due to failing miserably at flirting. She has a black raincloud with multicolored rain coming out of it for a Cutie Mark, symbolizing her moody attitude but hidden sweeter side.
