New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

Good news! · 6:33pm Sep 15th, 2021

The mods have approved me posting the updated original Feathered Heart chapters to my story! :yay:

So that will be happening later today, resulting in no less than seven chapters--Prologue, existing chapters 1-5, and brand-new chapter 12--being published to the story tonight. I have some work to do first, including editing passes on the prologue and chapters 1-5 (it’s been a while since I looked at them), as well as the updating the story cover, the author’s notes, the introductory blog, etc.

But the chapters will go live on the story tonight, along with the newest, Chapter 12: Lockdown Lifted, which has been ready to go but I’ve been holding back for an entire week pending the decision reached. Now that it has been, I’d like to publicly thanks the mods, including most especially Eldorado, for approving this. It will make things far easier on both me, and on readers to not to have to go back and forth between Fimfiction and Google Docs.

The release of Chapter 13: Explanations & Epiphanies will not be far behind this, as I expect it to go to prereaders as soon as tonight--if I find the time to finish it, anyway. With regards to the blog I posted yesterday inquiring about a possible R-rated chapter, there was some interest but also some serious reservations with rationales I found compelling--not the least of which is that I already had a side story for that and that I shouldn’t be bringing it over to the main story where the war and coming military action should be the main focus.

Having mulled this over, I now agree. So it will not be R-rated, and though some things will happen resulting in another side story chapter, everything will be implied and not overt; skipped over where necessary and saved for the side story where it belongs.

The other I thing I took from the comments is that we need to get to the wartime action sooner rather than later. We weren’t far away from it anyway, but we’ll reach it at the end of chapter 15 once the remaining pre-war threads are wrapped up. So thank you for indulging me, and thank you for the feedback, everyone who commented yesterday.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some serious work to do in order to be ready by evening, starting with gulping down a protein shake for lunch. It’s getting easier to swallow, at least.

That's good to hear. Both the Mods decision and on the whole swallowing thing. Looking forward to more to come.

That is really good to hear about the chapter merger. Not that it wasn't doable before, but I imagine the more convenient packaging will improve the reader experience quite a bit.

And save those of us who would from having to make our own combined epub. Which is why I actually joined this site in the first place, when an author whose story I loved did so I no longer had to take their random-site words and format them properly for reading. :rainbowlaugh:

Congratulation. Glad to hear it.

El Dorado is the coolest mod tbh.

Freaking awesome! I'm so happy the mods saw things your way, even if they dragged their feet, things broke your way and that's a damn rare thing these days.

Appreciated. More is definitely coming, in as soon as a couple hours.

And the writing one as well. :facehoof: It really was an awkward arrangement, and more than once I forgot to update the Google Docs with the new content chapters I’d written.

I’m sorry you had to go through all that. :ajsleepy: Thankfully, you won’t any longer. Thanks for following, and I hope you enjoy today’s soon-to-be-released chapter.

Congratulation. Glad to hear it.

Appreciated, thanks. It took eight months and asking three times, all told, to finally get their approval. In the end, it not only took the revamped story becoming popular, but that it took pains to praise the original, pulling a lot of people and interest towards it. I think it was the latter that finally swayed them--proof that I’d done right by the original story and author.

He certainly came through for me here!

You’re telling me. :trixieshiftleft: Well, persistence paid, as did a concerted effort to do the right thing. Like I said above, I think the key was that I’d praised and pulled plenty additional readers and interest to the original story, thus doing right by DEL.
