New Midnight Rising chapter off to prereaders...

At long last. This is the redo of the chapter I was forced to scrap in April and then about 80% rewrite. I saved a few select bits and pieces from the original version, but the rest went by the wayside.

Still pecking away on Midnight Rising and Feathered Hearts...

The two Lemon Zest chapters of Midnight Rising have now reached 26,600 words and they’re still nowhere near done, with probably another 5-6k words to go. Gotta treat the girl right, after all, and also make sure there’s plenty of sexy side dishes around her. And as for Feathered Hearts?

    Still working on Midnight Rising...

At the rate of about 800-1000 words a day. That’s my key to getting stuff done that’s causing you issues; just be sure you put at least a little time in on it this day to have some forward momentum. The two chapters are now up to 24,100 words. I’ll work on it more this weekend, at least around continuing work around the maps and battle graphics I’m making for Feathered Hearts.

Did two things this past weekend...

First, I ran 10k for the first time in two months after laying off that long to let my ankle bursitis subside, trying to allow the area to generally heal up. It appears that it worked. To my delight, there was no ankle pain after and I hadn’t even lost much stamina thanks to hitting an elliptical machine twice a week for an hour instead of jogging. My upper legs are another matter, though.

C&C chapter 40 entering prereads tonight + teaser

Much as I didn’t want to, I made the decision to break it up since the full length of the War Council meeting had exceeded 20,000 words and will probably approach 25k for the now-two chapters before all is said and done. The breakpoint itself will be between learning about the general war situation both Aricia and the Griffon Kingdom face, and then discussing what in all the Crows they’re going

More Midnight Rising ahead and... Feathered Hearts? · 6:15pm Sep 27th, 2021

Well, with the latest Midnight Rising release in the rear view mirror—a warm welcome to new readers, and I’m still hoping to see a few more comments!—another new MR chapter is on deck; this one for Sour Sweet. With regards to her, I have to be honest—of all my original story chapters, hers was probably my least favorite.

I not only made her needlessly mean but Midnight’s response to her as well; scaring the piss out of her and putting her in fear for her life. :facehoof: :unsuresweetie: That’s a no-no for this kind of clopfic. Well, you may consider that approach crumpled up and thrown out, along with most of the chapter. Only a few lines of dialog and description from the original version will survive in the new one, meaning this one will be more work than most to write. I’ll be taking a whole new approach, where Sour Sweet has a pseudo-crush on Twilight—at least in her ‘sweet’ mode. And she acted on it in various uncomfortable ways during gym class that were second only to Lemon Zest in how bad they were.

I admit that I don’t have a clear picture at this point as to how the chapter will unfold, but don’t worry. I’ll figure it out; usually I just start writing and see what emerges, then decide whether I like it or not. if I do, I build on it; if I don’t, I start over. Current goal is to release the next chapter within ten days. We’ll see if I can do it.

Which brings me to the second part of my post. It had been my plan to focus exclusively on Unleash the Magic for a bit, but I’m receiving multiple requests to continue Feathered Hearts. In particular, Feathered Hearts: Eros, given I left off on a *bit* of a cliffhanger both there and in the main story regarding Marco. :raritywink: So... I’m seriously considering doing just that. Or at least using it as a break from Unleash the Magic when I need to step away from it for a bit. Updates and possible teasers on that will follow as chapters get close to completion.

Oh, and for those who want to know... my recovery from surgery proceeds apace; I’m eating something close to normally again. Pain is almost completely gone and the cleft they carved in my tongue is about half-healed; the rift is only half as big as it was--it heals from the bottom up, slowly sealing it. I’ve even seen some improvement in my apnea symptoms, though I’m told that won’t reach its maximum until eight weeks out, when the reduced tongue is fully healed and the tissue has tightened up fully. I look forward to seeing its full benefit!

The full benefit will only be experienced with food or in the bed room :raritywink:

Your sure got us hooked on Feathered Hearts main story and Eros.

Glad to hear you're getting better.

Gonna break her into two beings? One Sour, one Sweet? Just wondering.

For the latter, not quite the way I’d want the most, but yes! :rainbowlaugh:

Thank you! I’m very flattered and gratified to see I’ve made some fans. Here’s hoping I can hook a few more before all is said and done!

Thank you. Believe me, so am I, considering how miserable I was at first. :pinkiesick:

Nope. Part of the beauty of this new version of the story--to me, at least--is that their basic personalities remain intact, even through all that happens to them. The Shadowbolt girls are irrepressible and very strong-willed, after all. That’s not to say they won’t be affected by all this going forward; just that their core beings don’t change. You saw that over in Nightmare Night in the earth-based chapters, I think.
