The Children of Planet Earth - Equestrian Dialogue Translations · 4:05pm Dec 15th, 2021

I've written a lot of Equestrian dialogue in this story, but never bothered to translate it in the story itself. I wanted to leave it a mystery for the reader---and besides, from my experimentation I found in-story translations to be rather tacky. But now that it's complete (including the paper explaining the phonology, grammar, and so forth), I think it's high time to pull the curtains back and show the reader what the hell the ponies have been saying all along.

I know many of you are simply dying to know what was being said---so look no further. Here, I've posted every single relevant passage, but with the Equestrian dialogue replaced with their English equivalents. To make them stand out further, their text has been recolored in NASA red.

Get your scroll wheel ready; this is going to be a long one.

Chapter 1

Then his question about the mode of communication was answered – it opened its mouth and words spilled out:

Hello. Who are you?

Chapter 2

It spoke again: “Can you hear me?” – with a tilt of its head, which could suggest confusion or concern.

The Indigenous shouted over its head, “Rainbow, can’t you see I’m busy?” – which prompted more of the same muffled talk above.

Then the Indigenous used its chalk as a pointer, and sounded out each part of the script, very slowly: “Twi. . . light. . . Spar. . . kle.” Then it pointed the chalk at itself: “Twilight Sparkle.

Chapter 3

Thankfully Antir came galloping back, hearing the commotion. It looked up at where the weight pinned him down, and shouted, “Rainbow, what are you doing?

A reply came from right above him: “Me? I’m protecting you from it! Why did you bring it into town?

Antir’s tone was firm. “Get off of it.

It mumbled out a quick “I’m sorry” [lit. “I regret”] to him before hurriedly taking flight.

When that pony saw Antir walking with this strange being, it halted and cried out “O Heavens!”, giving both of them the right of way without question.

Chapter 4

Antir let out a call: “Spiiike!

After making eye contact for a moment, it turned back to Antir. “Yes, Twilight?” it seemed to ask.

The dragon let out a “What are you doing?

You’ll see,” she replied, sitting in front of the pile of books, sandwich by her side, still on the plate.

Chapter 5

Adam!” Antir greeted, with a wave of her hoof. “Hello!” But Adam had barely waved back at her when a familiar pink equine came right up to his face and started chattering in a ridiculously high-pitched voice. “Hi! I’m Pinkie Pie! It’s always nice to see another person in town, so I wanted to throw you a party! Do you like it? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh? Huh?” All the while, it kept bouncing around him, usually keeping within his blindspots, making hearing it that much harder. Adam was barely able to keep up with it.

Thankfully, Antir was able to shut down the other’s babbling quickly with a “Pinkie, you’re scaring him!” Then she turned to Adam, pointed at herself, and said “Twilight Sparkle” – then to him, “Adam Somerset” – and lastly to the pink equine, “Pinkie Pie.

Antir was right behind him, and seemed to chastise Nyilidee. “Pinkie, he can’t eat anything from here. It could kill him!” At the same time, in her magic, she grabbed a towel to wipe off his helmet, taking care to get it done perfectly.

Nyilidee rolled its eyes. “How do you know? Have you tried?

To which Antir fired back, “I’m not risking his life to try your idea!” She sounded offended at whatever Nyilidee had just uttered.

Aww. . . .” Suddenly Nyilidee looked dejected. It turned to look at the refreshments. “I spent all day making them!

He tapped the lightning-bolt mark, then raised an eyebrow. In response, Antir called out “Rainbow Dash, come here” – and to his surprise, that rainbow-maned pegasus who knocked him down the day before flew down from the ceiling. It – she – didn’t look too pleased to see Adam – and in truth, the feeling was mutual. What’s next? Will you crack my helmet? Good luck with that, it’s made from polycarbonate. That much he did remember about the Strauss.

She took a seat across the table from Adam, all the while glaring at him through his helmet. Again Antir introduced herself, “Twilight Sparkle” – then Adam, “Adam Somerset” – then the pegasus, “Rainbow Dash.

Adam Somerset,” the pegasus echoed, with a point of a hoof.

Next, Adam pointed at the three diamonds. Who’s this, then?Rarity, come here.

Poor Nǂesell looked like she wanted to scamper off, what with her face flushed red from apparent shame. “Hey hey hey” – Antir stopped Nǂesell from leaving so soon, putting a front leg around her shoulders. “Don’t be ashamed.” But this did little to console the distraught unicorn.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Adam extended his hand to halfway across the table. Will you take it, Nǂesell? Surely you know I mean no harm.Go ahead. He won’t hurt you.

He tapped the three butterflies. “Fluttershy!” Antir called out – and another pegasus, yellow in appearance, made her appearance.

I guess that leaves the one with the apples. . . .He didn’t have to wait much longer before an orange equine with a well-worn Stetson hat plopped herself down before him, unbidden by either him or Antir. “Nice to meet you, Adam!” she said enthusiastically, grabbing his hand and shaking it vigorously. “I’m Applejack!” Adam had to pull his hand away after a few moments of that, lest she accidentally rip the arm right off the suit – and even then, he had to hold his arm down to keep it from swinging by itself.

Well, she seems open to interaction at least. Was that Antir’s work? Adam shelved that thought for the time being, and tried the usual round: pointing at himself, “Adam Somerset,” to Antir, “Twilight Sparkle,” and finally to her, “Applejack.

Hm!” Nyeledirve was definitely very enthusiastic to meet this new guest.

Confused, Nyilidee turned to Antir. “What’s that? She sounds a lot calmer now. Maybe the novelty of my arrival has worn off?

Antir simply replied with “I don’t know” – with a shrug-like gesture, so Adam could probably guess the meaning of the word.

Chapter 6

He knocked on the door, and stood there, waiting. The dragon answered a moment later and, when he saw who had come to visit, turned and called out “Twilight! Adam’s here!

What’s happening?” said H’ryleeloofa.

Adam wants to go into the Everfree Forest,” Antir replied. “I tried to scare him from there, but he still wants to go.

H’ryleeloofa’s eyes widened. “Why!?” she shot back. “What’s in there that Adam wants to see!?

It’s a mystery.” Antir shrugged. “He showed me, but I don’t know what it is.

H’ryleeloofa sighed, leaning back against the lander, while she and Adam waited for the sterilizers to finish up.

Said phoenix leapt from its perch high in the branches and flew down to Sulfoyarnǃa’s level. It made a few coos that reminded him of a bird of paradise. Then to his surprise, she started talking back to the bird: “Oh? Where is it?Is such a thing really possible?

Adam paid attention to the phoenix’s actions. Apparently it understood her perfectly fine – within the moment, it pointed further ahead on the trail with an outstretched wing. Then it took flight, high over the band, disappearing soon into the fog ahead.

Everyone, follow that phoenix!” she yelled out – then they all galloped down the road.

Adam!” he heard ahead of him, in a yell. “We found it! We found it! We found it!” – that kept repeating a few more times.

But perhaps her well intent was misplaced – it only took a moment for the beasts to break free of the rope and swarm the band once again. “Fluttershy, can you talk to them?” Antir said – and Sulfoyarnǃa stepped forward to start talking to them, just as she had the phoenix. “Hello. . . my name is Fluttershy. Please do not hurt us.

She even sparked her horn to draw its attention further. “Get it in here!” she shouted –

It took a “Pinkie, get off of him” from Antir, along with some prying from her and Nyeledirve to get her to let go.

Chapter 7 had no Equestrian dialogue.

Chapter 8

Princess Celestia!” Antir said, promptly bowing before the two. Well, when in Rome. . . . Adam knelt before them as well. I hope this is passable behavior.

The white one turned its head to Antir. “Twilight Sparkle, so nice to see you again.Same dialect, I’ll have to assume – but my, that voice! Then it turned to Adam. “And who are you?

This is the stranger from the sky, Princess,” Antir replied. “I thought he was the work of the Princess [Luna].

He was not,” the blue one spoke. Unlike the white one’s, its voice was more fractured, defective, as though it had not spoken in a long time. I wonder what that story might be for that. Adam thought that now was a good time to break from his kneel.

Does he speak?”the white one spoke again, this time pointing a hoof at Adam, while apparently addressing Antir.

Yes.” She finally stood from her bow, and shook her head. Was I a bit early on that one?But he doesn’t know our language.

Did you try to teach him?” the blue one said.

I have tried to teach him for [lit. “across”] four days,” she replied.

What does he want?” the white one asked.

This one gave Antir a moment of pause – you didn’t think of something, did you? She looked to Adam in some mixture of pondering and calm panic. Eventually she sighed, in apparent resignation, and turned her face back to them. “I don’t know.

Find that out.” The white one’s tone turned deeper, and it extended a hoof to Antir. “Find out if he wants to hurt us.

Antir nodded firmly. “I shall.

The white one added, “He would need to earn his place if he wants to stay in Equestria.” She stamped hard upon the floor, loud enough even to make him shake in his suit. . . .

Hey hey hey!” – a voice broke his train of thought. Apparently the shopkeeper had merely been away, and when it returned, had spotted the monster peering in the window earlier right in the middle of its shop. “What are you [two] doing here!?” It started waving to the door, at both Adam and Antir. “Shoo! Shoo! Shoo!” [[ʀ] is only used paralinguistically] Is it trying to shoo me away like some kind of animal? he thought. Not good for business.

He was only looking at the clocks!” Antir fired back. She stepped forth, to put herself between him and the shopkeeper. “Leave him alone!

The shopkeeper stopped and looked around. It seemed satisfied that none of its wares had even the slightest scratch on them – then snorted. “If you broke it, you bought it.” Without another word, he went to his place behind the counter, but watched Antir and especially Adam like a hawk.

See something you want?” the shopkeeper said.

How much is it?” [lit. “What bits?”] she told the shopkeeper. Adam could swear he saw a few beads of sweat trail down her head. Is is that expensive? Oh dear. . . .

One hundred thirty bits [decimal 54],” he replied.

Chapter 9

Stop!” a voice cried out – which was apparently a command to halt work immediately. An equine approached him and Antir – pulling off a pair of goggles with a hoof, coat and neckerchief profoundly coated in sawdust. “Who are you [two]?” he told them.

Thankfully, Antir answered for Adam. “I’m Twilight Sparkle, and this” – she pointed at the man in the metal suit – “is Adam Somerset.” She set her hoof down. “Adam wants a job, and chose this one from a list.

The other equine looked up to Adam, hoof on its chin, as though considering something. After a moment, he turned back to Antir. “What can he do?

But before Antir could reply, there came a loud metallic snap, then a cry of “Hey hey hey hey!” – apparently a chain had snapped while carrying a freshly-peeled log. . . .

Hello,” Antir opened – a greeting of some sort, I have to guess. This is Adam Somerset. He wants a job. Do you have a place for him?

For him?” the blacksmith replied, pointing at Adam. Antir nodded – then started looking around the shop, trying to find. . . something for some reason. I guess he’s looking for something for me to do.I don’t know. What can he do?There’s that question again, but what does it mean?

The farrier took a moment to speak – if Adam had to guess, it was to answer Antir’s question rather belatedly. “He may always earn a place, to help count shoes,” it said – and seemed to indicate the still-new shoes mounted on nails driven into the wall.

But what did he mean by this? Adam turned to Antir and tilted his head, to signal confusion. She responded by taking six shoes off the wall in her telekinetic grasp, and holding them up to him. “One, two, three, four, five, ten [decimal 6],” she pronounced slowly – and with each word, she emphasized one more shoe in her grasp than before.

Chapter 10 had no Equestrian dialogue.

Chapter 11

He didn’t get its name, but it looked rather impatient. “You’re late!

Go!” the equine suddenly barked at Adam, pointing at the door.

Hello,” it seemed to greet him. “I’ll be with you.

Nyeledirve indeed was waiting for him when he got there – “Hey Adam,” she called out to him. “Come here!

Winona!” she shouted at it. “No!

Appleboooom!” she called out.

She said “Thank you, Adam,” folded it up, and slipped it inside one of the crates of preserve.

Chapter 12

But such fantasies were ripe with that one folly, and of course it had to open its mouth and let forth its own small talk. “What do you think of Day’s Work?” it said – and Adam hadn’t the first idea how to respond.

The best he could do was a reflexive shrug. Don’t take this the wrong way, buddy, he hoped it would understand, but I don’t know enough about what you said to have an opinion.

But it chuckled in apparent response instead. “I know, she’s hard on the new – don’t worry, she’ll like you someday.

The stallion smiled. “Hello,” he returned in kind. “Come in!

Silently, he let the dirt fall from the dustpan onto the ground outside, moving aside as far as he could to let the pegasus inside. “Hello,” she greeted the barber.

Hello,” he returned. “What will it be?

Just the usual please, thank you.” She took a seat in the chair in front of the mirror.

Hello,” he greeted the barber. “It’s starting to bother me again.

Of course!” the barber replied, indicating the chair. “Let’s begin.

Chapter 13

Are you [two] ready?” the conductor told Antir.

Yes.” She nodded. “Let’s [plural] go.

Fix your boots, Twilight,” one of them told Antir.

Huh?” She looked down at her hooves. Then she lit her horn, adjusting the boots of her own suit. “Thank you.

Tell Adam to get out of his armor,” one of them said.

Antir started motioning for Adam to take off his helmet.

Chapter 14

What’s happening?” H’ryleeloofa had apparently flown in at one point, noticing the commotion at the lander.

Adam’s sick!” Antir replied. “I think he doesn’t have clean air!

Chapter 15

Hello,” it returned, with a similar gesture. “You have only [one] job today.” It pointed its hoof towards the board, assuming he hadn’t seen it yet.

Hey!

Adam barely had enough time to look up before something hit his helmet.

Chapter 16

Adam, Adam!” one voice eventually broke through his consciousness. He turned to look – hey, didn’t I see you the other day? Yellow fur, red mane affixed with the large bow. . . yep, it’s you alright.Miss Cheerilee wants to see you!” It pointed down the road, directly to the schoolhouse.

But before he could start walking away, he saw the door open. An adult equine stuck its head out – violet fur with a mulberry mane. It was not, however, the proper angle for him to see its hindquarter-mark. “Adam!” it called out to him. “Come in!” It waved a hoof out to him, gesturing him to enter the building.

As the door closed behind him, Adam stood in before the class, his body and facial language as blank and mute as his speech. “Class, this is Adam Somerset,” it seemed to introduce him. “Adam, write your name on the chalkboard [lit. “to the chalkface”].” It indicated the chalkboard to his right.

Adam looked, but found it completely empty – and freshly-erased at that. He saw the chalk on a metal tray in front of the board, where he found a few sticks of chalk and an eraser. It wants me to write on the board, Adam figured. But what?

Name, Cheerilee,” it said, putting a hoof on its chest. Then it pointed the same hoof at Adam. “Name. . . ?

Thankfully the teacher saved his sanity – “Class, leave him alone,” it said, and one by one the juveniles started to back off from the curiosity, some more reluctantly than the others.

Chapter 17 had no Equestrian dialogue.

Chapter 18

But it was the best he had for the time being. He turned back to the window, where Ãtir was still waiting patiently, and tried speaking his first complete Ơhqer words: “I am Adam Somerset.

These four words, as simple as they were, shocked Ãtir deeply – as though she had just accomplished some Herculean task. “Can you speak Equestrian?” she asked – she simply couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

Yes,” he answered plainly. “Only a few words.

Chapter 19

Hello!” she greeted him. She held up a manila-colored envelope to the window.

He nodded. “Put it in here,” he told her, pointing to the sterile locker.

Sulfoyarqa opened the door again. “Hello, Twilight, Adam,” she greeted. “What is happening?

Adam says it’s safe to get out of his suit,” Twilight explained in her native tongue. “May we [two] come in?

She seemed taken aback by what she said – even though he could only recognize the roots for speaking, helping, and a clever way of calling his suit literally ‘hard-clothes.’ I guess that’s also the word for ‘armor,’ he assumed. But she was enthusiastic all the same. “Yes! Yes! Come in [you two]!” She gestured them both inside.

It would be nice to see Adam without his armor,” Sulfoyarqa commented.

You’ll see,” Twilight insisted.

Chapter 20

How much money [is/are]. . . .” he tried to ask her, before stumbling over what grammatical number he should use. I don’t know how many pieces it would be. One? Two? More?

Of course not!” she insisted. “They [few] are gifts!

Adam didn’t get what that one root was, but heard her use the paucal number. You idiot, Adam! He simply bowed and left Cesel’s shop, with a quick “Thank you,” vowing someday to pay her back.

He also ran into a gray mare with a pink bowtie, one he had never seen before. “Adam!” she greeted. “Nice to see you!

Chapter 21

Adam?” he heard outside the lander. Though he couldn’t see past the crude drape that now adorned the doorway – which still let the cold air in, but it did mean he need not constantly swing such a stiff and heavy door open and shut all the time – he instantly recognized Sulfoyarqa’s voice and dialect. “Are you here?

Yes, yes, I’m here,” he affirmed. He got up from his desk and his studies, went over to the doorway, and swished the curtain aside to reveal the yellow-and-pink pegasus. “What do you want?

I was wondering if you were hungry,” she explained. Adam recognized the root for ‘hunger’ in the second verb, after Twilight took her time to drill that into his head. “So I brought you these [plural]. Do you want them?

One minute, please,” he excused himself.

These are safe for me,” he told her. I hope I got the right noun class – there are just three, but they’re tricky for me!

Hmm. . . .

May I copy this?” she asked him.

Yes.” He nodded, and held the paper steady in front of her.

Thank you, Adam!” Sulfoyarqa had apparently finished copying down his list, and had bowed her head and left the lander.

Hello, Adam,” she greeted – and then smelled him. She recoiled just a bit, chuckled, and added “Hm! You need that soap.

Yes, thank you,” Adam replied absentmindedly. As she went away, Adam stepped forward to the seller. “Is this soap?” he asked the mare.

Of course,” she said. Then she smirked – “Why? Do you not use it?

Adam rolled his eyes. “Yes, I use it,” he replied dryly. “I just need to buy some. How much?

Four bitlings.

Adam fished out four silver coins from his pocket, and laid them out on the counter in front of her. “Here,” he punctuated.

She counted them up and handed him a bar of soap, about the size of his fist. Not very large for him, but he would manage it just for today. Besides, he thought, how much would a single shirt and pair of pants need anyway?

Thank you,” he thanked – before quickly asking, “Is it safe for the river?

She nodded. “Of course!

There was Gugḷzimba, that gray wall-eyed messenger, making her daily rounds. He waved up to her, but she didn’t wave back. Instead, she landed right by his side, uncomfortably close to the naked human. “I have a letter for you.

Oh, I’ve got mail, haven’t I?To the mailbox, thank you.” He pointed down the road, in the direction of the lander. “I’m busy right now.” He emphasized that last sentence by showing the still-unrinsed jumsuit.

I see,” she acknowledged. “Goodbye!” After a quick bow, she took flight again, in the direction he had indicated.

Chapter 22

Ticket, please,” a voice sounded behind him. Adam looked to find the train’s conductor, hole punch in his mouth, waiting for the human to present his ticket. But he simply showed the summons from Yere Kisữ, accompanied with a “Here,” and after reading it for a moment, the conductor left with a “Thank you.

Hello?” a light voice penetrated his consciousness. He looked down to see the filly he saw earlier had gotten up from her seat and had approached the strange curiosity that was Dr. Adam Somerset.

Good chance to practice being friendly. He smiled, but only just, and returned “Hello.

Who are you?” she asked next.

Who am I? I am Adam,” he told her. “Who are you?” He quickly glanced up at her mother – who, while suspicious of Adam, as any mother ought to be with a stranger, didn’t seem to make a move to protect her daughter immediately.

I’m Sunflower.” She looked down and away from him. “You’re strange.

Oh, my sweet summer child. . . .I know,” he replied. “I’m a human.” He showed Kisữtjưke his hand, to emphasize his words. “It’s nice to meet you.

The same to you,” Kisữtjưke responded. Then she started to open him up a bit more. “What will you do in Canterlot, Adam?

I’ll become a citizen.” It was a simple question, hardly offensive. “What will you [two] do?” He indicated her mother as well.

We’ll [two] shop,” she simply said. “As for what, I don’t know.

Sunflower!” her mother called out to her. “Come to me.” She made a gesture for her daughter to rejoin her in her seat.

Goodbye!” she told Adam, as she flounced away from the human and took her seat between the window and her mother.

Excuse me,” one of them called out to him.

Adam stopped and looked up to see who it was – it was a brown stallion with an hourglass mark. “Yes?” he asked him.

I couldn’t help but notice, but you’re here in Canterlot.” He scratched an itch on his hide as he spoke. “Pray tell, why?

It was a rather odd and personal question, but Adam decided to humor him for the moment. What’s the worst that could happen? The Princess [Celestia] [animate] summoned me,” he answered, and even held up the scroll the Yere had sent him.

I see,” he saw. He turned to walk away, but stopped and turned right back. “Also, you meant to say ‘she [magical] summoned’,” he added.

Crap, wrong noun class!Sorry, thank you!” he quickly spat out.

As they walked past each other, Adam greeted her with a passing “Hello.” She looked up in surprise – then smiled and returned with a “Hello, stranger!” and continued on her way.

Adam Somerset,” a voice rang out. Adam looked to see it came from Yara Ariman, who had apparently opted to join her sister Yere Kisữ in deciding this matter. “Enter.

Rise.

Adam stood back up, again as ordered.

Did you learn to speak the Harmonic language?” Yere Kisữ asked Adam.

He nodded. “Yes, I learned to speak [it].” He made sure to get the words right – the last thing he wanted to do was to screw up his very first spoken words of Ơhqer to the Yere and Yara – aren’t they really the same word? – and prove both himself a liar, and Twilight a failure.

Did Twilight teach you [to speak] well?” she then asked, with a tilt of her head.

Yes.Okay Adam, be a little more transparent. You’ve got to gain their trust. And I taught her English.”

English?” Yara Ariman raised one of her eyebrows. “Why?

. . . she wanted to learn [it]?

But the Yere burst out laughing instead. “Are you scared?” she asked.

There is no need [to be scared],” Yere Kisữ followed up.

She cleared her throat – a prompt for a previously-unseen scribe to take up a quill and parchment, awaiting dictation. “I, Princess Celestia, decree: Adam Somerset now and forever is a citizen of the Harmonic Empire.” She waited for the scribe to finish writing, then turned her attention back to Adam.

“We will talk of this. Sister, let us leave and speak.” She stood from her daïs – and only then did Adam get the sense of how large she truly was. Even bipedal, and even discounting her half-meter-long horn, her head rose taller than his.

Yes.” The darker sister rose as well, only coming up to her own sister’s neck.

The two sisters returned about twenty minutes later, and sat down upon their respective daïses. Yere Kisữ cleared her throat – in preparation for the scribe to jot down a second edict:

I, Princess Celestia, decree: Adam Somerset and his tribe shall live in the Harmonic Empire. Their land shall be in the field to the north of Canterlot. This land will only be for their use, until decreed otherwise.

“It now does,” he confirmed. “I thank you [two], and [bid you] goodbye.” He bowed in respect, then turned to leave.

He took it as an invitation to enter the shop, dege-coins still by his side. “Have you come to buy a pocketwatch?” he asked him, with a slight twinge of nerves in his voice.

He shook his head. “Thank you,” he thanked anyway.

Chapter 23

There was just a hint of tart to their taste, just like back on Earth. Adam got about halfway through the muffin before Njilidi noticed him. “Do you like them?” she asked him, bouncing over to the table. “Huh? Huh?

He nodded. “Yes, yes! I like them!” he confirmed. “Thank you, Pinkie.

He slipped the watch back into the box, which in turn disappeared into his pocket. “Pinkie!” he called out into the crowd. I’ve got to give her my thanks for this.

Yes?” she spoke up behind him.

He turned around on his heel to find her standing there, as though she had been there the whole time. He knelt down to her. “Thank you for the pocket watch, Pinkie.” he told her.

What’s happening!?

Adam looked up to see that Ħṛylilufa had joined the duo just now. “Zodiac is coming!” he answered.

Here? Now?

Yes, there!” He pointed due north. Overhead, the ring had sprouted parachutes, to slow the descent now that it had penetrated the atmosphere. The heat shield assembly had been detached, and now four large retrorockets were firing. To Adam, it looked like everything was going according to plan. But just to be sure, he had to remind them – “Watch for falling pieces of the heatshield!

Got it, I’ll go tell everyone!” Ħṛylilufa replied. “Goodbye!

At last, translation!🤗

“Find that out.” The white one’s tone turned deeper, and it extended a hoof to Antir. “Find out if he wants to hurt us.”

Antir nodded firmly. “I shall

First of all, rude. Why the hostility?
Second, did Celestia just demand Twilight to do her job as a Princess?

Twilight was closer to Adam so would be more comfortable with her. A better atmosphere to find ones true intentions. If aliens showed up here and said "we wanna be your friends" wouldn't you be a bit suspicious?
5617289

5617305

If aliens showed on my door, I assume the government would want to handle the diplomatic or otherwise interactions rather than asking a civilian like me.

Yes, I get Twilight is Celestia's pupil and mare-to-go for world ending crisis, but I still think she should have been more directly involved.
Also, aren't the Sisters ever a little curious about a recently arrived specie from the Stars, beyond if they are hostile or not?

5617306
But in this case Twilight already built some sort of relationship with the alien. I think Celestia decision was the right call. Removing Adam from the environment he was in would most likely result in unfavorable outcomes where Adam is involved since at the time he needed his scrubbers replaced in his suit, and the others would have thought the worst had he just vanished. Probably wouldn't react with hostility but it would hurt relations in the long run. As seen she did take interest, but she still has a nation to run. Alien coming from the sky or not.

Dan

Sad that it's over. There's so much more I want read about; like Twilight's POV of the events and her correspondence with the Princesses. And the Princesses' POV of the events. And the rest of the mission's crew first meeting their new neighbors. Particularly Dr. Weiss's reaction to meeting the team that examined Adam and comparing professional notes... and/or repressing (or not) squee and urge to hugs and brushies.

And even though Adam already did the official diplomatic protocol stuff in presenting himself to the Princesses, I suppose it would be appropriate that Adam's boss, the Commander, also present himself to them at some point. Surely Celestia would relish chances to practice her English, even with someone with a heavy accent.

This ended far far too soon.

He would need to earn his place if he wants to stay in Equestria

Given this, I have to wonder if Celestia was speaking more figuratively and Twilight was the one who decided that meant Adam had to work at the local temp agency. The story is working exclusively with Season 1 logic after all... :raritywink:

Thanks for providing these. Most of them are obvious in hindsight, but it's still nice to get confirmation that they were what they seemed to be. Plus, this blog lay bare some nuances that got totally lost in the lack of translation.

Someone came, alone, when summoned and now Celestia acting with hostility towards the said alien for no reason.

Last thing you would want to do is to antagonize the alien for no reason. Celestia is also acting out of character, as she is depicted as a diplomatic leader.

That would make perfect sense, especially considering they've yet to confirm that he can breathe the Equestrian atmosphere. However this would also imply a later scene where either Twilight realises she misconstrued the instructions or Celestia learns that how he was subsequently instructed was incompatible with his health & safety protocols.

Ah, finally.

I haven't gotten through the paper chapter yet (busy), but thanks for the translations!

Did anybody ever finish the Morse decoding? I had a kid ans got too busy with that to continue.
