This one will get a little morbid.
Be warned, this talks about cannibalism and child endangerment in a school argumentative essay.
So, a while back, my teacher gave us a topic that we had to argue about. Basically, you hike through a jungle and stumble across a family gathered for dinner, but don’t see anything for them to eat. You realize that this family is gonna sacrifice their fifth child, an infant, to their gods by boiling the child and eating its corpse. What do you do?
Simple, right?
At least I thought so.
See, we’ve been taught that judging people based on cultural beliefs and traditions is wrong and that we should never do it. This is why more than half of my class decides “yeah, we aren’t going to do anything. It’s their cultural beliefs, and we won’t intervene.”
I’m like, did you not hear what he just said? They are going to BOIL A CHILD TO DEATH AND THEN EAT IT. Why am I the only one arguing for this infant to live?
This entire class is making me dig deep into research to find some evidence that eating a baby is wrong from a logical standpoint. No emotions I have, no (what little) cultural beliefs I have, nothing. Just cold. Hard. Facts.
And when I do have some facts that back up my claim, they are like “well, it’s their culture! It’s not something we can judge!”
I have a LIST of reasons why eating your own child for your religion is wrong, from medical reasons to double standards to cult-like activity. The angrier I become, the more invested I am in research. They legitimately make me want to write a whole essay about this and why it’s wrong to cannibalize your child, regardless of reasoning. And I’m supposed to be out of school for Christmas break!
…I feel like it’s really unhealthy to get all worked up because of this make-believe situation, but my classmates have made me so exasperated that I’m WILLINGLY to write an essay out of spite.
I honestly don’t know what to say at this point.

Count me as another because... this is the most patently absurd "thought exercise" I have ever heard in a classroom setting that it borders on fiction.
Less so than the classmates, that teacher should really question the topics they give their students, especially for the purposes of argumentation.

Well, you've certainly certainly got one person in me who agrees with you. I'd easily say that the value of human life exceeds our duty to be considerate of others. You don't allow murder just because the murderer thinks it's OK. Really though, the whole situation is absurd and a terrible example.
