August 2022 Update · 6:50am Sep 9th, 2022

That puts a wrap on August, with a lot of progress on the Crystal War story. Eighteen chapters have been edited, though I'm taking a step back, as I've abandoned the suggest-mode editing partway through and I'll have to do some additional scrutinizing for the first ten or so chapters because of that.

I said that Near the Tree's publication would mean that all of my non-proofreading energies for writing would be focused on the Crystal War fic, but given the optimistic pace I've been on, I would like to say that I'll do my best to submit something for the recently announced Ancestral Tribute Contest. Not including Writeoff participation, the only other writing contest I've participated was the Season 9 Bingo Contest way back in 2019. Part of my motivation for joining this year's contest is to have a fresh pair of eyes look over my writing: While I'm very grateful for the current batch of friends I've got that have looked over my writing over the years, it has been admittedly a rather small number, and I do need to interact with more of the people here and benefit from their take on how I write.

Reading-wise, I've gone through Greg Cox's spy thriller Two of a Kind? and just started John Scalzi's sci-fi The Collapsing Empire. For fan fics, notable mentions include having finished David Silver's Ponyfinder: The Lost Flowers and having just started Paracompact's Bug in a Blizzard.

TPonyfinder: The Lost Flowers
The horror, the horror... They were on the search for new and amazing flowers and they found them! Why isn't this good news? They arrive in a strange city filled with colorful creatures they do not understand and no way home.

TBug in a Blizzard
Evidence emerges of a changeling among a tight-knit group of friends. A detective and his apprentice are sent by the Royal Guard to investigate.

That will be all for now. May God keep you safe this month!
