Community service isn't exactly fun. Sunset Shimmer is learning that the hard way—especially when Saffron Masala keeps cooking extra meals that their soup kitchen couldn't pay people to eat. It's not fun, it's not worth it, and it's never ever ever going to change. And... for some reason, it seems Saffron's okay with that.

Now, six Wednesday nights out from the disastrous Fall Formal, Sunset decides that she might as well ask Saffron why.

Turns out Trixie Lulamoon isn't as great and powerful as she says. After the loss of her only friend, Starlight Glimmer, Trixie returns to her caravan. She recalls the death of her mother, and loss of everypony she has cared about. Perhaps her life is a lost cause?

The concept of what is ‘real’ is an interesting subject, truly, and is oft debated to this day, and shall be for eternities to come. Lines of thought around it have brought the most brilliant of mares down into madness, all while being ignored by those who cannot comprehend such madness.

Ignorance may be bliss, but sometimes one may be forced to ask themselves what they truly are, if they are real or merely the product of another’s imagination, and if they have any free will at all... Some may find these questions less hazardous, and simply accept it all, but others will push the bounds of what it means to be real, bending the truth to their will, and all for the sake of a simple infatuation...

King Sombra came from an old age, a time where darkness and evil were prevalent across the land. The Princesse's power and influence were weaker in those days, for the land of Equestria was divided amongst many kingdoms of lesser Princesses and Princes. But out of all their ruling neighbors, The Four Shepherds held the most power of all, even threatening Celestia and Luna's kingdom. However, all of that changed when they vanished for a thousand years, ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity. Until that is, when the Crystal Kingdom reappeared, along with one of the Shepherds. King Sombra, however, was thankfully vanquished swiftly, but the following peace of his defeat would not last as long as anypony might think. A new force sets its eyes on the recently coronated Princess Twilight Sparkle, one that seeks to restore a lost heritage and remind the land of who is the true owner of the night. For when one evil is smitten, another appears in its place. And King Sombra was only the first in line.

Rainbow finds a trophy for a pony declared, "an honorary Wonderbolt". Curiosity getting the better of her, she asks about the pony.
She was greatly surprised to hear that, of all ponies, Derpy had gotten the honor, and respect, of the organization Rainbow idolized.

Written for The Wonderbolts Site Contest. I spent more time writing for the Sci-fi contest, with the goal of writing a one-shot for this one afterwards. In honor of it being a Speedwriting contest, I wrote it down over the course of two days and in under three hours total writing time. I hope you enjoy, and good luck to other contestants!

A lot of things have changed in Sunny Flare's life between her sophomore and junior years. Her mother, Abacus Cinch, retired; she got her first summer job; and she's started treating her associates like actual friends instead of warm bodies to hide from the conniving masses behind.

It's now the day before Ghouloween (the Pedestrian equivalent to Nightmare Night, for the ponies in the audience), and Sunny's got her first report card of the new Principal Cadance's tenure. After two years of perfect grades... this one's... not perfect.

Unbeknownst to Sunny while she tries to figure out how to explain this to her mother, the former Principal of Crystal Prep already knows why this happened. Sunny Flare might never see the bombs drop, but this reveal will leave a smoking crater in her soul just like the real deal.

Rated Teen for teenagers swearing about as much as teenagers think is cool and stoner Lemon Zest.
