A Ponyville schoolteacher finds himself thrust suddenly into a family's personal problems after a confrontation with an angry mother.

For their first home together, Twilight and Applejack wanted a house close to Applejack's farm and big enough for Twilight's books, with a little something special besides. They settled on the perfect place, one of the oldest barns on Sweet Apple Acres, and had it converted into a comfortable house for their little family. But when strange things start happening just after they move in, Twilight finds that she has a mystery to solve before she can really call her dream house "home."

On a clear and cloudless night, a young girl starts for home somewhat later than usual. She knows her parents aren't worried. They know she can be trusted. They know what a good girl she is.

The streets are empty, the stores are all closed...

...and someone watches from the shadows as a girl walks home alone at midnight.

For her entire life, Twilight Sparkle has looked up to Princess Celestia as a teacher, mentor, and role model. At no time was she forbidden from asking for advice when troubled by a problem. As she grows up, however, her problems grow far more complex, and far less scholarly, in nature. Will she still be able to seek her mentor's advice on more intimate matters? What sort of advice can an eternal princess offer a young mare?
