A Twin Canterlots anthology—first in the Lectern’s Books series

It’s good to find new hang-outs and not see the same old places constantly. Sci-Twi suggests Lectern’s New and Used Books—a pretty nice place with a pretty nice owner. It even has a front room and a back patio set up to hang out in.

Set during the summer vacation between the girls’ junior and senior years at CHS—latter half of season five.

With Twilight holding court, more and more ponies come to visit Ponyville. Royal Pin, the only tailor in Ponyville, has too much business to handle by himself. When he hires help to ease the pressure, at the suggestion of Rarity, he finds a partner in business and love.

It was supposed to be simple. Coco would head to the Crystal Empire, design some new uniforms, collect a paycheck and head back home. But a few wrong turns in a confusing castle led her to a place she’d never even imagined. And after a few chance encounters with some very attractive mares, she’s not so sure she wants to leave.

When a child is young enough to believe in truth and old enough to not have found it, fluid enough to need no foundation and rigid enough to want one, cynic enough to mislike the world and romantic enough to love it, then may they go wandering on dusty hooves through wood and plain and mountain, hungry for the warmth of other hearths and the caress of novel tongues and customs. And when their ears and eyes and heart and hooves are filled to overflowing, they must hope that the road has worn them to fit a door passed along the way.

A fairytale bildungsroman sort of thing, grown several times too large.

Death and violence are not frequent or terribly explicit, but they do appear.

Time and again, against her parents wishes, a young rascal escapes her room with intent. It's something related to Canterlot castle, but she won't tell them what, no matter how many times they drag her home. No matter how many times she loses her nerve and turns back herself.

Tonight she's making her final attempt, and this time she won't fail.

No matter how much the moon scares her.

Most ponies prefer sunshine and clear skies. And that's perfectly reasonable. But my favourite weather is rainy.

You might disagree, or you might agree, but no matter what, you at least ought to know why.

So, here's why.

Proper Thestrals don't celebrate the Summer Sun Celebration. They never have; they never will, for thestrals never forget.

Deep in the heart of Mount Canter, the dirge of the Nightmother calls them, and they answer it every year. This year, however, is the year after Princess Luna returned. There is little reason to hold a funeral for the living, and yet they do so all the same.

They must always remember; they must never forget; Honor and tradition demands it.
