Her cell is well furnished, and food is brought to her from the royal kitchens from which Celestia herself dines. Among those privileged few in her lady's service, the mare in the high tower is a curious ghost story. What awful crimes must she have committed? What could she do? What but the power to slay gods could keep one small mare in the quadruple sealed apartments they call Death's Vault?

Now all four have become an entirely new being, with her own thoughts and feelings. And in order for the Princesses to return, she will have to die.

One hundred and thirteen people find themselves standing in a dark, round room. They are neither living, nor dead. They will be offered a single choice, and they will be asked only once.

This is a story set in Iceman's Friendship Is Optimal universe, but knowledge of that work is not needed to understand this tale.

The worth of a dragon is measured by their hoard, so what happens when a dragon finds something so valuable as to make all other hoards small by comparison, but so precious they cannot keep it for their own?

A young dragon discovers the answer when she finds the priceless treasure kept by the Sisters of Song.

Why did I do it? It was so simple: just watch Rainbow Dash fly by, and be sent back to my own reality. I could have just waited, but I didn't. I could have convinced Starlight what the right thing was, but I didn't.

No. No, what I did was valid. I didn't trust her, so I did what I could to make sure Starlight didn't mess anything up for a hundredth time. I did what I felt was right.

But if I knew the cost, if I had known how unforgiving time would be, if I took a minute to think about what would have happened, I would never have gone through with it.
