First place in the 2021 Everfree Northwest Iron Author contest

After an unknowable amount of time sealed inside a prison of magical stone, Cozy Glow finally escapes. The hapless young Princess who freed her, intent on allying with the "Frozen Foal" to oppose her family's tyrannical rule, doesn't have any idea how dramatically her plans are about to go awry.

And neither, it turns out, does Cozy Glow.

Discord has something on his mind. Cadance isn’t completely sure how she can help but she’ll try her best to solve this puzzle.

The third place winner for the Iron Author speed writing contest at Everfree Northwest this year. I was honestly so shocked and honored when I heard. Everyone’s stories were so good! I can’t wait to see everyone post theirs soon.

Speaking of that, I want to edit this story more since I think I could smooth things out a little. But I don’t want to make everyone wait until then so here’s the unedited version submitted at the contest. I’ll leave the story complete but a second chapter that’s just a better edited version might be out soon.

Of course, Reinn endeavors to answer the question using her own experiences, mainly because she’s asked it all the time.

For Celestia's entire life, and time immemorial before, ponies have lived in three tribes. The magical Unicorn Kingdom in the far north moves the sun and the moon, the hard-working earth ponies grow food, and the proud pegasi of the Cloud Empire control the weather. They coexist out of necessity in a delicate balance of trade, although they have little trust or friendship for each other.

But now, the North is getting colder. Crops are failing, and the balance is crumbling. In the midst of the world's freezing, a sinister plan unfolds, spelling further disaster. Everything hangs on the precipice of catastrophe.

All Celestia ever really wanted was to be assigned to work on the sun control team, but her world needs heroes – before it's too late.

Following the Cutie Map, Applejack and Rainbow Dash head off to Whinnypeg to find a friendship problem somewhere in the convention center. A con is poised to start when they arrive and they check-in as attendees, ready to search high and low among the staff and the con-goers for whoever needed their help. The only real problem is that the con is a couples retreat, everypony is flashing Applejack and Rainbow Dash knowing looks, and the two of them aren’t together like that.

At least, they haven’t been together like that since they were teenagers …

A warm farewell to some beloved characters and an AU I am going to miss. And yes, I am considering this canon to the franchise. That said, I think (and hope) that newcomers will be able to grasp what's going on without having read everything that came before... although the effect might not be as strong without that context.
