The Apple family has always had close ties, so when Apple Bloom is sad that her friends are all occupied with other things, Big Mac comes to the rescue. Who says there's no fun to be had on the farm?

By hook or by crook, Scootaloo has managed to land a job as the personal pedagogue for Princess Flurry Heart. Years as a Cutie Mark counselor have helped her bury any baggage she may have originally brought to the role, but perhaps a filly like Flurry needs Scootaloo the pony, not Scootaloo the professional social worker.

A big, Crystal Empire-sized thanks to Nitro Indigo for pre-reading and helping me get the tone of the fic just right. Scoots's portrayal needed to walk a very fine line, and Flurry Heart is a fun but challenging character to craft a personality for.

Cozy Glow loves games. She has as long as she can remember. The pony she plays with most often is her father. They play a lot of games together, but her favorite is chess. She's never beaten him, but she will someday, right?

The Everfree is a strange place with hazards and geometries that don’t exist anywhere else in Equestria. The Cutie Mark Crusaders aren't afraid though. No sir. Especially not of overly friendly strangers with hidden faces.

Done as a mood, detail, and descriptive exercise for myself. Hints toward the identity of the stranger are woven into the narrative word choices with the hope that the reader figures things out just before the characters do. Let me know if I made the clues either too subtle or too obvious.

Toola Roola is a special pony, just like everypony else. She's learned that fighting with your friends doesn't mean you have to stop being friends. It just means you should let them win sometimes, otherwise it looks suspicious.

She didn't learn that from her parents, who have no time for her except by appointment. She didn't learn that from her best friend, who has too much time for her and spends most of it fighting anyway.
