I'm curious, how has everyone's views on self-inserts changed over the years? I'll admit, for quite some time I tended to view self-inserts as nothing more than people's weird fantasies coming to life until I decided to write one myself. First I wrote one using a made up name and eventually I wrote some where I use my real first name. Now I've omitted my last name in all of them for security reasons. Yeah things may not flow quite right without it but what about you guys? How have your views changed and do you use your last name in your self-inserts or do you omit them like I do?
