I dunno if I still have the comic the story was in, but I remember a story where Clark Kent had "died" in some way, and Superman talked with Batman that it was an opportunity to retire his Clark Kent disguise or something, I don't remember for certain. Point is, Clark is considered dead.

The Daily Planet staff reminisce about Clark, and Lois recalls a time when she and Clark witnessed an explosion. She says her first thought was to get the story, find out what had happened... but Clark's first thought was to help the injured. She quickly joined him, feeling ashamed if I recall correctly.

I kind of wish I could find that story again.

You're thinking of Grant Morrison's New 52 run on Action Comics, which you can find in the Superman By Grant Morrison Omnibus.

Thanks! Do you know which issue has the scene where the people at the Daily Planet talk about Clark after his "death"?

It's one of the issues in Vol. 2, but I can't tell which one it is.
