As a non-native English speaker who communicates with non-English speaking brony community, I would like to clarify: what is the exact meaning of this word?

The way I understand it, the term "clopfics" is derogatory term reserved for fiction in which pornographic content is its only redeeming quality. Therefore, saying "I like clopfics" makes as much sense as saying "I like niggers. Some of my best friends are niggers". Am I missing something?

I don't have the guts to tell them.

2705955

it's not derogatory. It's just a genre of fiction which contains focuses almost exclusively on erotic material.

oh, and ponies, of course.

erotic material.

...and not in any way "explicitly pornographic material, which is the only redeeming quality of the piece"? Somehow I got the impression that at least some people use the term like that.
Update: ah, I see how you changed your reply.

2705955 Honestly, that's exactly why I refer to straight up porn as a clopfic, and stories that contain sex as Mature Fiction. You can generally tell which is which from the description alone.

Rumble goes to flight camp and gets more than he bargained for. He expects to be taught to fly but gets taught a bit more. (also sex)

Clop Ensues.

This is a clopfic.

Rarity is having a rough day. Her friend Pinkie Pie comes to her rescue. Now Rarity has a problem: What do you do when your Prince Charming turns out to be a princess?

This is Mature Fiction.

Generally speaking, a clopfic writer gives not two shits about their story description, because why should they care? It's just porn.

There's a negative connotation with the word. Which might lead some to think it only applies to trashy fics. But... when you're speaking to the average pony-fan on the street, all they mean by it is sexually explicit fanfiction. Of any kind.

2705955 As explained by Know Your Meme:

Clopping is considered the pony equivalent to fapping, internet slang for masturbation. Just as “fapping” is derived from an onomatopoeia, “clopping” is derived from the onomatopoeic word “clop”, used to describe the sound of a pony’s hooves striking a hard surface. Especially considering that the majority of the show’s cast is female, this has led to jokes about how hard the ponies’ genitals would have to be to produce a sound often associated with hooves striking stone or concrete.

clopfic = clop(ing) + fiction

Apologies, I had realized my wording was not accurate.

The point I was trying to get at is that it's not insulting or disrespectful to call a fic a clopfic; clop is a genre of fiction, and some people choose to write that genre and enjoy reading it.

explicitly pornographic material, which is the only redeeming quality of the piece

Clop isn't necessarily the only redeeming quality, disregarding the fact that this is often the case anyway. Clop without plot, they call it. Even I'm guilty of that one. :twilightblush:

2705962 I like your explanation, straight to the point.

Clopfic is one of those terms whose definition depends on the person. What it is to me may not be the same as it may be to you.

To me, a clopfic is a fic whose story only serves to deliver the sex. Wherein mature fiction, the sex is used to serve the story.

Clopfic is one of those terms whose definition depends on the person.

Would you agree then that clopfic is an overloaded term, and therefore of little use to describe a story? Generally speaking, the words which definition depends on the person are not useful to convey meaning.

Not necessarily. While everyone's exact definition may be different, the use of it in a description highlights what the author thinks is the important and interesting part of their story. In this case, the sex.
