We see Sunny Starscout's father, who has been telling her stories of a time in Equestria's history when the 'Guardians of Harmony' (That being Twilight Sparkle and her friends) inspired Earth, Unicorn, and Pegasus ponies to come together through the magic of friendship. A time when all three tribes lived in peace, thus filling Sunny's head with dreams of befriending a pony who can fly or a pony who can make objects float with the magic radiating from their horns.

Awww that is so sweet...He's going to be dead by the time Sunny goes on her big adventure.
