Site Update » Issues related to incomplete registrations · 5:18am Mar 28th, 2015

Early December, we accidentally broke the job that cleans up user account registrations that didn't have their email validated within 24 hours. This caused a number of issues related to usernames not freeing up when an incorrect email was used, forcing some users to select a username other than the one they originally wanted, or to use a secondary email address.

Site Update » How to make Fimfiction work & Banners · 9:54am Dec 24th, 2014

Upgrade your browser.

In all seriousness, it is quite absurd and worrying how many people are using the internet with browsers like Firefox 1. That's about as bad as using IE7. If you are using an old version of a browser, you need to update it. Not just for Fimfiction, but for any websites, because those old browsers are unsafe.

Site Update » Tagged Blog Posts · 3:57am Dec 16th, 2014

Since the bookshelves update happened, the tagged blog post system for the feed has been working off the old favourites data. Some people probably noticed that, and it's something I forgot to fix ages ago. Anyway, it's fixed now and there's some changes.

First of all, tagged blog posts are bookshelf dependant. Each bookshelf now has an option for whether to show tagged blog posts in your feed or not.

Site Update » Twilight Tag · 7:26pm Dec 11th, 2014

I meant to do this a long LONG time ago, but Twilicorn has now been merged into the Twilight Sparkle tag. The reason that tag existed was because of all the drama around the time Twilight became an Alicorn but it no longer makes any sense to pollute the tag pool with two copies of one character.

Site Update » Blog/User Search, Also Liked Stories, Similar Groups, Trending/Related Tags · 7:03pm Dec 10th, 2014

I've added a few more new features in the past few days which I'm sure many of you have noticed but here they are anyway.

edit: I forgot to mention I also added a little page hit counter at the bottom of the page in the footer.

Site Update » Bookmarks · 4:55am Nov 7th, 2014

Not a massive update here, but I redid how bookmarks "work" yesterday. Bookmarks are now per paragraph, which properly stores where they actually are, and will even remember if the author edits their story, as long as they don't change the paragraph you bookmarked (for technical people, I just store a hash of the paragraph, whereas before I stored how far you clicked through the chapter, which meant it would break if you ever changed font size or screen width). This means bookmarks now carry

Site Update » Some minor and MASSIVE changes · 3:41am Oct 28th, 2014

We've just made some really massive backend changes on the site. As usual with these things, there is a good chance something no longer works. If that's the case, this is the post to report them in.

You'll also notice some fancy new dropdowns for notifications/PMs, and comment pagination that's much more robust and basically works a million times better than it ever did.

Site Update » User Stats · 10:31pm Oct 16th, 2014

Today I've been working on a stats page for each user. You can access it in your user toolbar dropdown or from any user dropdown (the button on the top right of a user card). You'll get a variety of stats for your account:

This chart shows you your story views (purple) and stories posted (blue)

This chart shows you your followers over time

Site Update » New formatting options · 6:02am Oct 16th, 2014

We've added some new formatting options to the chapter formatting dialog. People have asked for better dark schemes, and we now have a few that are tinted towards a color, as well as "Ultra Dark", which has a true black background. Alongside these new options, we've improved all dark schemes to fade out the overall site background when you're reading the chapter, which gets rid of those annoying light-colored bars on the sides of the page, which made those options significantly less useful.
