A lot's been going on in my life of late, so I figure I should probably give y'all an update. First off, and most relevant to you, probably, I finished the first draft of an original novel! I don't want to divulge too much, as my plan is to try and get it published by a real publishing company so people all over will actually read it, but I'll share the main draws. It's a medieval fantasy epic, with three co-protagonists, each having their own arc. And the unique soft magic system had a lot of
Hit that sweet 45678 words in the original fiction adaptation.
There's really not much left of the story to write at this point, to be honest. This is one of the final chapters, and though it's only really long enough to be considered a novella/light novel, I'm perfectly fine with that.
Oh, hello.
So yeah. Last week or two, I've been trying to focus on NON PONY FICTION. Fancy that. Which, well ... is good, but I've also kind of hit one of those 'agh everything I do is terrible' bits about 16k words in. Which, uh, resulted in me just cutting a good 3k of stuff and taking the plot in a slightly different direction, but that's what I get for making things up as I go along.
Back in 2013, I wrote a story called The Monsters Inside.
It wasn't pony related at all. But it did get into The Writhing Dark anthology!
And now I've posted it online. Go have a look, if you like Lovecraftian horror!
His brow creased with concentration, Lofting set the ruler across the map, made a few fine adjustments, and traced a line from East to West. This done, he studied his handiwork a moment, laid his tools aside, and stabbed a fingertip upon where the pencil marks crossed. "That is where we must go," he said.
If you're one of the fairly large number of people around here with an interest in writing original fiction as well as ponyfic, it could reward you to investigate JaPGaxie's "The Next Generation" contest. Possibly even literally, given the $350 prize fund, though given the likely calibre of the competitors I'm sure the challenge itself will be a major attraction for many. It's for short stories (3k
What's this? The first chapter of the original fiction adaptation of Pony-Me? By golly, I have been doing something all this time! In all seriousness though this is by far the shortest chapter and I just started on the 8th one today... er... yesterday.
“Rebecca! C’mon, sis, wake up!”
Normally when I write original fiction, it is strictly fiction – that is to say, not 'genre' fiction (i.e. science fiction, fantasy, etc). But I do love me some fantasy, so when the opportunity came to produce an original piece accompanying a favorite old game world of mine, I could barely pass up the chance. So if fantasy is your jam, you may enjoy this.
More pony stories to follow, I promise.
Meditation on Fire
Part 1: The Mage
This is not a story about ponies. No ponies here! Go elsewhere for ponies.
But this is a story for a D&D adventure I am writing. And I suppose it's also a story about what it means to have purpose, where we get that purpose form, and what happens when that purpose vanishes. People things, in other words.
The flower turns its face to the sun.
Run for cover. Jk lol pls stay.
You know, Roses and Violets has long since taken form in my mind and now that I know what's going to happen, and all I can say is... It doesn't really belong in the EG universe/continuity. I'll give it an AU tag tomorrow. And it should be something else, too.
Picture the following;
The world we know is actually a dream, and the world of dreams is secretly reality.
A non-pony thing, even!
Fancy that. Guess I got a little tired of feeling sorry for myself and started kicking some ideas around. Or, well, really, just refining some ideas I already had, as I'm fiddling around with a sci-fi project/setting I've gotten a couple of false starts on for ... four years now? Yeesh.
(Don't mind me tagging Pony-Me with this blog, 'cause it's most relevant to that.)
...Yeah, haven't really been updating much at all here, have I? Lemme just blab about some stuff:
Yes, my interest in MLP has only been getting smaller for quite a while now. I'm mainly still here because I like reading fan works more than watching the show, and also because I just like the community in general.
Though the stories aren't tagged as such, everything is currently under unofficial hiatus.
Hey, did you know I write non-pony things?
Like, actual original writing. Not other fandoms (I used to, but my Final Fantasy and MegaMan stuff ended years ago — although the ridiculous self-insert Final Fantasy 7/Final Fantasy 8/Dragonball Z/Sorcerer Hunters/Star Trek TNG/Kirby/(I forget the rest, but at least one scene involved the ghost of Bob Dole, who died in chapter one, attacking the heroes with a minigun) crossover lasted a surprisingly long time).
Is this a "State of the Author" blog? I think it might count as one.
2017 got you down? I've got some ideas on how much worse things could be! My collection of original horror, The Bacon Room is $0.99 this week on Amazon! It's full of horror, death, torture, and exactly one slightly off-stage gay blowjob. But it's still more or less SFW, so I can link to it, right?
After scrapping the old plans to just directly adapt Pony-Me's entire plot to original fiction and instead rewriting everything from the ground up, it's only taken three months to hit 10k words across six chapters.
Short to say, based off of that alone, I'm pretty sure that the original fiction adaptation is gonna be quite a bit longer than the OG Pony-Me, even when counting the guest chapters and bonus bits such as the April Fools' chapters.
