August State of the Author, with bonuses! · 10:38am Aug 4th, 2022
It's August! And I'm secretly working on a secret project which I can't tell you about because it's a secret.
I also can't find a good, topical opening image.

Hey all, a brief progress check and life update.
I'm currently in the death spiral of a high-level summer math course. Partial Differential Equations. In 4 weeks. Online.
Honestly, it's not as bad as I thought it would be. The professor is solid and understandable, but the material is a bit of a mind-bender. That, of course, has been slowing progress on the writing front.
Yo! It’s the first second—
<checks calendar>
—It’s December!
Which means we’ve entered into the last century of 2020.

I'll be a year older in less than four hours when the clock strikes twelve. As shitty as this year has been, it seems to have gone by quick. In hindsight, that is. I guess going through the motions of life without much thought tends to speed up time. The days kinda start to blur together after a while, and suddenly I find myself getting older.
It’s the first of October, which means it’s One-Shot-Ober. So grab some paper and sharpen your pencils . . .
I won’t be competing; I won it back in 2014 and I’m not crazy enough to try again. Although I am crazy enough to have considered it.
Rather than post these on the first of the month like some, I prefer to aim them at significant Celestial events.
Thus it is on this <checks notes> Summer Solstice, I present to you a State of the Author.
So... I'm back?
I never really left, I'm still on Fimfic every single day, but by "back" I mean I'm actually writing again, and that is almost entirely work on Maternal.
I don’t need to tell y’all about the pandemic, of course . . . unless you’re living under a rock.
If so, stay there, and
I bet y’all wonder what the Admiral’s been up to in September October November Dec . . . oh wait, it’s still November, so there’s that at least.
Feels like December, though. We got hammered with a bunch of snow--as did many in the east-of-the-Mississippi part of the US. But I survived, so grab your favorite beverage and settle in.
MayhemMoth is a newer pony writer (and a really good one) who happens to also be really good at art, too! I enjoy their work and if you happen to want some art of your own, they're offering commissions to get through a rough spot! You can find out about them here. They have a variety of options and examples of pretty pony pictures you can pick to purchase, including icons, OCs, canon horses, other non-human
Long time no see, folks! I need to break my silence to turn a spotlight to a true labor of love: a new Chinese translation of Thou Goddess!
Okay, so school's out for the month and I've got two of my GEDs passed, meaning I have plenty of time to both enjoy the Holiday Season and work on my fanfiction. ...And hopefully not freeze to death. Let's hope the third bit doesn't happen, eh?
On the subject of that, Aura of Empathy's finally been finished. You should expect to see it up sometime this week, I think. So, that's good news for all you Sunset Shimmer/Lucario/Pokémon fans.
Next Year's Plans, that sure grabs your attention right out of the gate doesn't it? More after the break.
Anyone still here?
To say the last couple of months have been busy is an understatement and a half. Between school and work, I've been basically going 16 hours a day every day with very few breaks. And I still haven't had enough time to do everything better than half-assed. Ain't it a bitch when you're overextending yourself and it's still not enough?

As of right now, I'm doing well. Hope that continues forward through the day, as today hasn't been too bad, aside from a few unsavory people at work.
It’s been one of those months . . . or at least one of those weekends.
I won’t bore you with all the details, but one of the highlights was my van getting a flat tire on a section of the highway where the exits were six or seven miles apart, so I couldn’t limp it to the off ramp.
So, I really don’t know how much I’m going to say in this blog post but my life is on the up-and-up atm and I wanted to share it. Not much has happened but what has happened makes me excited just thinking about it.
