After Season 7 ramped it way up with the strong male characters, Season 8 seemed to put the pause on that. We didn't get really bad stallions per say, we just saw a lot less of ones that in previous seasons had been really prevalant. In particular, Shining Armor got arguably the worst treatment as a result of this new school direction. Although he was added to the new intro, he didn't appear or get mentioned in a single episode all season long (here's to hoping he appears in "The Best Gift
Season 7 really ramped it up with the strong male characters, at least among the stallions. Part of that probably had to do with the fact that we met two fathers of the mane six (Bow Hothoof and Bright Macintosh), and another got a big role in an episode, and another stallion with family relations was made an important part of an episode. And it doesn't seem like there were any Zephyr Breeze or Sky Stinger characters to drag down the list. You know the drill by now about these lists, it's the
A couple of mares got introduced to us this season, and a couple of others returned or got more screen time and development. It was hard to decide on who to add and who to drop though, because a couple of characters that remain popular in the fandom or did really well last season, got left off this time around, but I digress, we've got a list to do.
Here's the third version. Let's see who's made it and who didn't.
Well, Season 9 has given me a lot to talk about in regards to redemptions/reformations, most of it not very good. But we'll get to all of that when we get to it (and in many cases it won't take long to reach the newcomers or the ones moving down). Here's the previous version, from the middle of Season 9, like before I'm not counting the reformations/redemptions of any comics exclusive
Season 9 definitely gave us some memorable songs (only two really bombed in my opinion), though "Rainbow Roadtrip" for the most part didn't have much oomph behind its songs. Still, there were enough songs I felt worth adding to bump this list up to a top thirty five one. If I tried to explain why each song ended up where it did we'd be here forever, so just ask if you're curious, and as always this list is purely the result of my personal opinion.
We had a couple of new unicorns introduced to us this season, so I think it's time to update the list again. Here's the second version, from the end of Season 5. Time to find who made it onto the list this time around!
10. Coriander Cumin
Spike and Discord weren't the only ones this season who got better roles in terms of male characters. This season, at least early on, had a ton of really strong male characters, even if we didn't get a whole lot of new stallions. Granted, it wasn't completely perfect, we still had male characters like Zephyr Breeze and Sky Stinger, but for the most part the good outweighs the bad. In any case, here's the
"The Best Gift Ever" brought in either two or three new songs depending on what you wanna count, and ultimately at least one of them was good enough to warrant being added to the list. I did consider a top Thirty Five, but I can't think of many other songs I haven't already included, so I just decided to go with Top Thirty Two (maybe there'll be a top Thirty Five or Top Forty even after Season 9). Just ask if you're curious as to why a certain song ends up where it does and as always this list
Despite not having a lot of new stallions introduced us to this season, most of the current stallions got a lot more love this time around compared to the previous seasons. Two in particular got a massive amount of screen time, and one was even given a much needed day in the limelight.
Anyway, here is the second version, time to see what's changed.
I used to do these with my season overviews, but that always took a lot of time, so I figured it was better to explore the new characters and how they all stack up here. While there are plenty of characters that could qualify, I'm only including ones that had a noticeable presence and/or we know their names (some were not named on screen but recieved a name in the credits. This sadly disqualifies a majority of the cast of "Viva Las Pegasus" hard to talk about ponies when we
Well, now I've reviewed the movie, it's only natural that the reformations ranking be updated. But there's been a couple other reformations to consider. Including one I'm very reluctantly including here despite my absolute detesting of it. Here's the previous version, from the end of Season 7, the only rule is I'm not including the reformation of any comics exclusive villains. And as
I didn't opt to update the rankings until now because Season 7 and the movie did not affect my overall rankings of the five princesses that existed up to that point. But since then, there's one new princess from the movie, one from the comics, and technically another that hasn't been talked about much. So the list warranted an update. Here's the third version, from the end of Season 6. Time to see what changed, and
There weren't too many more stallions introduced to us in the final season, but we did get more screen time for some fan favorites, former place holders came back in spectacular fashion, and a couple of newcomers joined the list in various places. By now, you know the drill. Here's Version 6.2, from just after "The Best Gift Ever". Let's see who moved up, moved down, got added, and got
Well, I did one for the stallions, so I might as well do one for the mares. It's been over a year since the original version, which you can find here.
Time to see who made it, and who didn't. You know the drill by now.
10. Spoiled Rich
Here's the third version, from the end of Season 5 Just like the Earth Ponies list before it. Let's see who made it onto the list, who dropped off, who moved up, and who moved down.
10. Fleetfoot
Season 6 introduced us to plenty of new character, some more memorable than others. So now it's time to take a look at the ten best new characters to grace us with their presence in Season 6. A quick word of note, Sunburst doesn't count since he was technically established as a character at the end of Season 5 (albiet as a colt). And like all my lists, this one is by no means official, so feel free to disagree.
10. Petunia Paleo
Not everything about Season 8 was bad. Contrary to what you might all believe, I don't absolutely despise Season 8, there are episodes I like that no one else seemed to enjoy (like "The Maud Couple", "Surf and/or Turf", "Molt Down", and "The End in Friend"). And not every new addition to the cast was a terrible one. Heck, if you'll look back to my list ranking the second half of Season 8 compared to the other second halves, adding up the totals left Season 8 in a surprisingly close second to
