Sunburst · 7:00pm Oct 7th, 2015

Thought some of you might be interested in seeing this shaded sketch / drawing type thing of Sunburst!

I've been thinking about writing a story about an event from an earlier time in her life, before Seashell. While I was considering it, I drew this. It came out pretty good. Maybe it's a sign?

Well, I don't know about that, but I like the picture, so that's something, at least.

The Seashell(s) behind the story · 3:00am Sep 29th, 2015

I have something interesting to share today with those who enjoyed Seashell—it's a look at the real-life history behind the story.

The first little inklings and scribblings I wrote down of the thoughts which would eventually become Seashell started right after I visited San Clemente Island. I'm still not sure how to describe that experience other than to say it was three of the best days of my life. I still think about it.

Seashell: The Book™: progress report · 3:18am Dec 2nd, 2023

I'm pleased to be able to say progress is being made, although to temper the good news, it hasn't been entirely easy.

I've just gotten over the first of the two major emotional hills I'm expecting the story to have to encounter. And while I'm glad I wrote it, it was hard on me. It may be been bleeding out into other parts of my life in some ways, which hasn't been great, but I guess it's encouraging in a way because I think that's a hallmark of good writing; it should influence you.

Seashell is hitting print! · 4:21pm April 8th

That's right. We're there.
Writing is complete, interior layout is complete, cover is complete.
Time to print a proof copy! :pinkiegasp:

I'm super-nervouscited right now. :pinkiehappy:

I just ordered the first proof from Lulu Press. In a few days I get the physical copy in my hooves, and I get to see what I screwed up my work on actual pieces of paper in linen-bound hardcover with a dust jacket and everything.

Seashell: getting closer to print! · 3:55pm March 15th

Here's where we are on the Seashell print book:
83 pages all told, including front matter and a preface. 75 of them so far are story. Anticipating about 10-20 more pages to be finished. Almost there!
Cover's done (for the hardcover edition dust-jacket, at least, will probably have to be redone for the paperback but whatever).

RE. Seashell: Let's Make it Official · 9:40pm Sep 29th, 2023

What the title says. It's happening - Seashell is going to be a print book.
I guess it's a good time to tell everyone, because I've already started doing the layout. In fact I'm mostly finished formatting, if not content writing and editing, the interior matter for the first edition I plan to print.

"Whoa whoa whoa," I can hear you now. "First edition you plan? As in, there's gonna be more than one version?"

It Cuts Like a Knife; It Might Leave You Bleeding · 5:17pm Dec 3rd, 2023

Story reviews are interesting because, sure, you can use them to know if a certain book will be the right one for you? But I feel they’re more useful when the review is in itself a tool to talk about storytelling in general. You review a book, but the book is a jumping-off point to discuss what it means to have good pacing; stuff like that.

So about that Seashell remake... · 6:00am Aug 17th, 2023

No promises. I'm still not deciding if I want to do it or not.

But if I do, I've been struck with an idea (a dangerous thing, I know!).

Paul's Thursday Reviews II · 12:31pm Aug 6th, 2015

So before we get to the reviews, a little announcement. I fear I am slowly approaching a financial crisis, and if things don't turn around at work within the next two or three weeks then I may have to take extreme measures. To try and pad this situation, I've finally caved into my friends' suggestions and started work on a Patreon. It's not ready yet, but I wanted to go ahead and let people know that it's coming and I will appreciate whatever help can be offered. I'm trying to think on rewards
