Scootareader

I finally figured out how to put this thing on my profile. This is the best thing to happen to me since Princess Celestia teleported me to Equestria so that I could romance her student and sister.

T

For several years now, Tom has been maintaining a vigil over the Everfree Forest. Set to guard the secret of the Mirror Pool, he has never once let anything through.

He is surrounded by life and vibrancy, but he feels none of it. Nothing notices him or cares to notice him. He is alone, as alone as a rock can be.

Bloomberg similarly feels lonely, but is surrounded by wanton lust and fake intimacy. He stands apart, but wishes for the eternal coupling that he remembers so many of his elder trees having in Sweet Apple Acres.

Separated by distance and only able to see each other in their dreams, these two must find a way to reconcile far more than their inhibitions if they have any hope of being together.

This was written completely seriously. There's a few puns and whatnot, but this is legitimately a ship between Tom and Bloomberg. You've been warned.

Also featured on a Fic Spotlight. I love you, Tooly Royal Guard.

Also resides in the shelves of Twilight's Library.

Also reviewed by Seattle's Angels. It means a lot to me. Thank you guys for being awesome.

I'm glad I sufficiently surprised you. What, were you expecting a generic SoarinDash, or maybe a TwiPie? I'd rather not write the stories I can already find.

There is a Tom x Bloomberg ship out there, but it's a joke, and I think a true love story can be written between them. This is that proof of concept, and a reminder that love isn't always the thing we expect it to be.

Needless to say, I hope you enjoy it.

Well... this is a first. Like, I have literally never seen a story like this in any place... ever. I have to say, I am most certainly intrigued by this. However, while the grammar is perfect, you definitely need to work on show v. tell. Specifically, the first section was awfully telly. Here is a couple examples and associated suggestions, but you should go through and find more yourself.

I cast my stony gaze over the land which I have sat upon for years now. All of it is familiar to me; I see nothing new.

This line particularly is awfully telly. First, what does the land look like? After that, the second sentence is fine, and the third will be fine with the first sentence fixed.

I can’t stand the horror of my waking life.

That's great and all, but what is the horror? If this character were... well, sapient, then more could be done, but I honestly have no idea how you could show "him" not standing the horrors of his waking life.

Honestly, I feel that a few more things could be cleared up in sequential chapters in terms of show v. tell, but if not, then I'll probably have to come back to this.

This... oh God, what? XD This is fantastically written and intimately hilarious.

This is... well, really, really intriguing once again. I don't think I have ever read a story with this ship. You are certainly crazy.

I'll actually look into implementing those changes. You're completely right.

3948010
Th-thanks. :twilightblush:

3948025
We couldn't be friends if we weren't both crazy.

3948061
I would also contemplate sending this into The Royal Guard (a group) for review and such. It would probably get in right off the bat. There is a really, really good chance.

3948094
I would, but I am a pre-reader for the group (despite not posting tons of Rarity), and that means I need an extra pre-reader for my story. :ajsmug:

I also haven't read any kind of go-ahead from management that TRG pre-readers are allowed to submit their stories now; I'll ask Golden Vision when I get a chance.

Still, that means a lot, coming from you. I know you read a lot, and it feels like I've really got something unique and good here to hear you acclaim it so highly. :twilightblush:

This was written completely seriously.

Oh shit. I'm actually going to read this now.

still not the weardest thing i've seen, nothing compars to that twitrane story. *shivers*

3948256 it's a one shot by blunderbolt in his bed time stories searies.

3948151
Well, it's reassuring to know that this isn't being discounted just because it's different.

3948208
I've never actually heard of Twitrane. It's Twilight and who else?

3948441 a train, you know the one in the opening in S2 and forward

3948455
Ah, Twitrain. That sounds... really bad. Like, really really bad.

I am never going to be curious enough. :ajsleepy:

3947977
I tried to make the first section a little more showy. You've no idea how difficult it is to give a rock body language. :raritywink:

Well.. Um. That was a thing... that happened... :rainbowhuh:

Anyway. I have to hand it to you, I couldn't stop reading it. And it was worth the time.

Got a fave, like and follow from me. Keep up the... good work?

Also; I have to thank 3948025 for sending me this direction.

3967238
Thanks! :pinkiehappy: I hope my future chapters are equally as riveting.

I will say this now: The four tags that I chose for this story were chosen for very specific reasons. I don't intend to leave anyone disappointed.

3967309
That moment when I thought the story was complete. :facehoof:
I'm definitely looking forward to more, though!

:twilightblush: Thank you for the kind compliment, Mr. Famous Person.

Much as it pains me to say so, this is utterly delightful.

A rock and a tree don’t belong together, nor should they be together.

That doesn’t mean he doesn’t matter to me.

And he does.

This passage means more to me than it has any right to.

4120213
I know it's silly, but I'm getting feels when I write these things now. :fluttercry:

4121203
Not so silly. I had a full-blown Semi-Existential Crisis about two-thirds of the way through The Sparkle Chronicles, for what I suspect is much the same reason: this has gotten a lot more serious than you originally intended.

4121436
Well... not exactly, no. I knew from the get-go the kind of story I wanted to tell, but I don't usually get so emotionally invested in the story I'm telling. I write with plenty of emotion, but actually feeling it is the part that's surprising to me. I care deeply about the characters I write about, but... well, I guess my writing is improving, because now I can feel it a lot more acutely. :twilightsheepish:

4122567
I didn't mean to imply that you were writing a trollfic or anything; that was inept phrasing on my part. But a sudden burst of personal emotion -- it's like a big blue wave, as Ashleigh Ball might say -- changes things markedly.

This is amazing because it's well written and wtf at the same time.

You seem to know your drama. Did you take a class at school.

I can see an ending.

Not the ending, but an ending.

[nudge]

I'll say no more.

This is utterly insane and FANTASTIC. The slow movements of earth and rock and root... Truly a love story for the ages. :raritywink: I do so hope they get a happy ending...

4260028
4261079
I would feel just awful if I spoiled the ending now. :twilightoops: Rest assured, it is most likely not what either of you expect. :raritywink:

So beautiful.:fluttercry: *sniffles* Don't look at me!:fluttershyouch:

Is it strange that I just now realized that I haven't liked or favorited this, also, sad Tom makes me sad.:fluttershyouch:

And to think we mocked Maud Pie for her devotion to stones.

4269942
No. I did anticipate Tom outliving (so to speak) Bloomberg, but I didn't expect anything quite so apocalyptic.

Which is just as well, since the Real Ending is shattering enough.

...shit man. That was more intense than I thought it would be.

Damn son. To think that this was always a crack ship and you came along and made it something real.

:fluttercry:/10

This beautiful work does not have the recognition it deserves. The amount of emotion in this story was so incredible to read that I would say it rivals some of the current top stories on the site.

That feels trip was absolutely amazing. You get a favorite and a follow for this one. You deserve it!
