I'm older than your average brony, but then I've always enjoyed cartoons. I'm an experienced reviewer, EqD pre-reader, and occasional author.

Ponies gravitate toward Twilight. Through charisma or just getting thrown together by circumstance, she's gained a lot of friends, but when has she ever simply walked up to a pony and said, "I'd like to be your friend"? Time for the Princess of Friendship to fix that.

Wow, this story already has 28 likes, and yet, no comments? Well, I apologize for this, but the first comment is one of those "I will have to read this later," type of comments. :twilightsheepish:

(As a minor way to apologize for that, I will get around to reading this story before any others on my read later list. Until then, I've gotta go and catch some zzz's)

I have to say, although I usually tend to move away from the sadder tales this was actually a nice story to read.

I usually tend to believe that Cutie Marks can be changed when a Pony's desires change. I realise that this is not presently a common believe... although hopefully others will follow in that regard.:twilightsheepish:

With that being said though that in no way ruined the story for me and I found it to be a wonderful piece of literature like many of your other narratives. Thanks for the read.

This story does an excellent job of portraying Twilight's pathological need to solve problems, and her inability to let go of one. I think its a wonderfully complex weakness in the character, driving both her successes and her major failures, an the sense of impending disaster loomed from the moment Applejack accidentally changed how she viewed Tone.

The comparisons to the Cranky Doodle episode are interesting, as there is a lot in common (both between Pinkie and Twilight, and the situations in general). Pinkie "solved" her issue by actually finding Cranky's lost love... Twilight has a much more difficult road ahead of her.

Nicely done!

Sheesh. Twilight can never take a hint. Is it me or does AJ and Fluttershy seem to be the only ones capable of of leaving things well enough alone.

Now that I have managed to get some rest and get a clear head, I can say that this story was written rather well. That sad tag applies more than I thought it would... :fluttercry:

“True, and they have been good. It’s just that he can get a bit obsessive at times.”
Applejack stared back for a moment before she broke into a halfhearted grin. “Yeah. Um… you wouldn’t know that feeling, would you, sugarcube?”
“Huh?” Feeling of… wanting to cook something?
“Never mind,”

That got a bit of a chuckle from me. :rainbowlaugh:

Twilight might have a point about Applejack and the events of "The Last Roundup," but sometimes, it really is better to just leave something alone. I hope she can reconcile with Tone...

Anyway, thanks for writing!

I know that feeling, I've had it many a time, but next time you feel like that, could you at least try to actually say something in regards to the story? Please?

That was beautiful.:pinkiesad2:

-Spirit

P.S. Have to stop reading sad stories.:twilightangry2:

I like it, and yet I feel that there is more to it somehow

There are so few comments on this story. Why? I'm so very confused. I guess I'll go ahead and read this story to help that. I'll also give something more meaningful than this comment.

4781655
That's often been a thing with my stories. I don't get many comments. Though a lot of stories do because the author is carrying on several conversations and making a lot of the comments himself. Either way, it doesn't bother me. If people like a story at a good ratio, then I guess I've done my job.

This was a really touching story. Thanks for writing it.

Wow. So instead of Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome, he took things in an even more depressing, slightly opposite light. To think that something would hurt a pony that they'd literally cut a part of them away to run from it. This story while well written, was utterly depressing. Nice fic though, I enjoyed reading it, I'm just seriously depressed after having done so.

4785224
Quite probably no less depressing (though I thought there was a prospect of optimism at the end), he does use the phrase "tear it off," but he didn't mean it literally. It just went away on its own, since it wasn't being used.

4786003

I don't know about the hint of optimism at the end. But his CM changing like that is rare. Even multiple cutie marks in Canon are rare, so that's still some interesting food for thought. Does make it a tad less depressing, but still sad.

4786272
It didn't change to something else. It had faded away, and it came back. Yeah, this kind of thing doesn't happen in canon, but canon just kind of takes them for granted. They've done some play with them in "The Cutie Pox" and "Magical Mystery Cure," but I like thinking about what some of the deeper possibilities might be. And as Twilight noted, even though it had gone away, the talent didn't, and she's going to try to coax it out again. So there's a hint that things may turn out well after all.

If this gets an epilogue, or a small continuation that'd be nice to see.

Wow...that was a hell of a curveball there. One of the best examples of utilizing Cutie Marks I've ever seen. You should be proud of this tale. ^_^

Honestly, what I took away from this is confirmation that Twilight Sue Sparkle know jack and all about friendship.

Funny thing is, I think she was right, in the end. She has nothing to be ashamed about.

Well, that was kind of unfinished.

A side story, but I believe it:

I always figured that as magical projections, CutieMarks could change. Indeed, I always figured that the fade away after death.

Great read. I can definitely see where Twilight is coming from with her experience from the show. Good take on cutie marks, not another 'Cutie Mark Failure Insanity Syndrome'
Greenthumbed!

Also, I've only read a few of your stories. What do you consider your must read?

4914713
Man, that's a tough question. I like different ones for different reasons. What you'd like best also depends on your personal tastes. My two favorites are probably If Memory Serves and In Bloom, all things being equal. What kinds of stories do you tend to prefer, though (tags, subject matter, characters, etc.)?

4916256 I'm up to read anything. Will read them both, thanks!!

That was very depressing. Very well written, and very depressing. Good job! Any chance that there'll be an epilogue or sequel of some sort?

Spike’s just got this weird thing about strawberries lately.

That reminds me of an old Hebrew children's book my mother used to read to me when I was little. It was called האריה שאהב תות, or The Lion That Loved Strawberries. It was about a lion that only wanted to eat strawberries. (But then when he stole all the childrens' strawberries, he realized he didn't like them) It was one of my favorite books.

No, I have no plans for a sequel. I liked leaving it open-ended, because what happens next isn't really going to affect what Twilight learns. She's already gotten the lesson she needed, and she'll certainly try her best to make things right, but even if it doesn't work out, it'll only mean a little disappointment for her.

4970938 Oh, okay. That makes sense.

A good story.

So the thing with the smells, was that an Earth Pony thing manifesting? Must have been fairly recent after the transformation though at least 26 days.

7020002 Yeah, she could pick out details of the soil and what would grow well in it just from the smell, and she realized she must have gained earth pony abilities as well.
