StormDancer

Nope

E

It all started with Twilight Time. Well, maybe not all started, but close enough. There may have been some shortcuts taken and there might have been a mistake or two, but it really shouldn't stop the running of the leaves.

After all, when Applebloom actually did a little research and, to everyponies surprise, experimented a little, well, she didn't earn her cutie mark...

But this isn't her story; it's mine. I'm Sprout.

Author's Note: The CMC are tagged since they play an important role in the story, but this is not a CMC story. They aren't background characters, but the story does revolve around them.

This is quite possibly the most interesting concept I've seen in some time. Please do continue this exploration, I'm positively riveted

It's most peculiar that this has not received more attention from the community in general. I suspect that if this had come from an already popular author, it would probably be up on the featured list and being acclaimed for it's radical narrative. With the utmost sincerity I can say this perspective shift captures my intrigue in a way few stories have, 'Sun Princess' coming to mind as the closest analogy.
Perhaps a front cover would attract more readers?

Well thanks for the praise - happy to hear you're enjoying it!
<heh> As to the cover image, I usually add one once I've gotten a day or two to fiddle out an idea and make it. Rest assured, I was scribbling a bit last night so there should be one up in a day or two.

Well, I'm a little tired right now so I'm not going to give you a full review of this. I will say though that it is an interesting story, and told from a very cool perspective.

Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far. Here's to hoping I don't disappoint.

Seems intriguing. liked and tracking
lets see where this goes

I'm not sure that I understand everything that is happening, but I love the story!

<chuckles> Glad you're enjoying it.
Second is Winona.
The CMC are being bullied but either won't tell, or can't seem to get the help they need.
Our little protagonist doesn't understand any of this beyond that the CMC are his pack and that they're not well/injured.

...
Oh... and the CMC are at school.

The parts from after the "death" to the flowerpot tipping were beyond my ability to casually decrypt. This is a not a bad thing as it makes the alien nature of the character and its poor condition more evident.

'Foul-smelling rain' showered with soap? Unlikely to be sap since that would be "blood".

7015211
Foul-smelling rain, in this case, is sweat. <chuckles> Keep it up! If you're enjoying it, here's to hoping the rest is still fun for you.

7015306
Ah! Sweat! Obvious in retrospect, like so many things in "alien perspective" situations.

Unlike my fallen pack-mate, Bud, Yellow Red left no confusion this time. She had set a pile of the Unmoving Tribe corpses that Whiteflower is so fond of only a few paces from my burrow after having poured over them for much of the night, presumably checking for parasites, beetles, or fungi which could harm us.
-

My dog ate my homework! No, seriously!

and proceeded to struggle up the thick-fog which she prefers to sleep upon.
-It only now occurred to me that this might be AB's bedroom, rather than the clubhouse.

her eye seemed to change color before me, sliding up into her head and changing to a white, somewhat brighter that Whiteflower.
-Fainting? What follows seems to indicate otherwise.

Even the dark damp seems to be ashamed of me: it has long since become the dark dry and offers little comfort
-Oh dear, she forgot to water the bed... or didn't think it was necessary after it became mobile.

I am not as stealthy as Yellow Red or my other packmates,
-I suspect it thinks of itself as stealthier than the buzzy one. Side note: "it" is not an insult I just don't know the gender and only THINK I read it using gender terms, so it might reproduce asexually or at least hermaphroditically, with both male and female flowers (parts to the same flower? It has been a while since I took biology).

Not a one of them is truly weak or infirmed, many in their prime, and yet she keeps them all in line, as little more dangerous than a briar.
-Is it being childish or do a significant number of immobile (or at least permanently rooted even if they can gab or club) trees in the Everfree poses a threat to a timberwolf?

I finally saw it, a large wolf stalking through the south end of the herd, with a tiny piece of the SUN in its mouth
-Somehow this doesn't feel like an Apple. Fluttershy maybe?

but when I heard was the unmistakable bellowing of Ambercrown.
-Okay so I was wrong. Also, should be"what" not "when".

Hah XD

Appropriate chapter title for a suddenly revived story. Glad to see it was only playing dead.

<blinks and re-reads the chapter title> Well... I'll be damned. Didn't even notice that.
Seriously though, that was a happy coincidence.
The remaining chapters are (in order):
To Slink
Taproot
Graft
Broken Branches
To Appear Healthy
Scouting
To Fell the Unmoving
Thick Bark
Territory

This is an interesting thing, thank you for making it.

Who's the other tag for?

7676466
Technically, Sprout is not an OC, and since it's a non-standard character (not to mention a non-standard portrayal), I figured the "Other" character tag would be a best fit. It's NOT a CMC story after all, even though they play an important role, and this way it's more clear the focus is not simply on them.

I worry that I'm not understanding everything that's going on in this story, but I love it so much! A great take on a very original concept!

7679331
You would not be the first that became confused. Do not worry though, most of the confusing terms work themselves clear within a chapter or two.
Even so, that is high praise in my book.

I love this perspective of this wolf trying so hard and learning so much despite everything against them.

There... now it's properly posted. Sometimes I wonder if my tablet hates me or if my desktop simply loves me more.

Wherein Winona makes a friend

More? Please? I like it.

Hey, someone's out there reading this again? Alrighty, I'll see about throwing out an update in a few days. In all honesty, I like to re-read things when they've hibernated for a while, but I did enjoy this one and if folks are still reading it, I'll do what I can.

There you go, new chapter.

Nice job getting the sense that he knows what is going on, even if he doesn't know the little details of it.
