A prequel to The Necromantic Adventures of Lyra Heartstrings. Faeries are supposed to be grand arbiters of arcane knowledge to the world, right? Ancient warriors that can stand against the forces of evil and wield great magics against them without hesitation to protect the world? Beings of pure warmth that are willing to dispense their learning to those that dare approach them, right?
Fluttershy is not that sort of faerie.
Thanks to Libra/Sour Lemonade for the cover image!

A very nice little mix of things, and enjoyable story. Thank you for its writing.
Nice short story.
Heh, never mess with Old Man Willow. Or Tatzljack.
Wasn't expecting to see either of them.
Didn't get this at first, laughed when I did. Now that's pretty darn inclusive.
I do believe I'm going to read SaintAbsol's story now.
every part of her regretting that particular choice of attacks
1. Don't you mean Attack? As in, singular?
I do love the lore of the Necroverse being built up from the pieces we have. Already three stories in and we've got a great foundation for this whole story nay, world. Though that kinda is already implied with the verse in Necroverse hah.
So Righteous and Sweetie Drops were both in this briefly but I say but it helps to build their character even more because of their choice. I've seen Righteous in the main story line and I can safely say that from that point of view alone, I did not like her. With this addition however, her character is much more likeable to me. Call me the Lawful Neutral sort of one was to classify me.
We might most likely see another cameo of our two ponies here in the main story sometime in the future and we can potentially see how they've lived their lives until that time. Assuming something bad didn't happen yet. This is a universe where violence, radicalism to ridiculous levels and death is more common after all.
Wonder how Roseluck and Fluttershy would get along? Or even Lyra and Applejack? Hmm... Some potential there.
1) Yeeeeess
2) D'aawwwwww
3) I love Ponyville: Weirdo central.
Except Bon Mot. That guy can go eat a dick.
OMG! Tahz-jack OP! Valve plz nerf!
The tahz-jack thing was a surprise. For some reason I was expecting a werewolf. Loved the story none the less.
Aw yiss. *applaudes*
Beautifull stand-alone for the Necro-Verse you gave us there.^^b The tatzelpony twist threw me of, much like most readers I dare to say. Would have expected a were-beast or maybe even some Jeckyl-Hyde mechanism with the stetson as a safety switch.
Also, I loved all the mystical mechanisms you used, like the inviation thing and the whole "Fae on the warpath" scene. Really nice show that Fae are bipolar in natur, that they can be beautifull beings of light in a good moment and hissing creatures of the dark in a bad one.
6208680 I kinda wish I had thought of the Jeckyll-Hyde idea before we solidified the 'Verse canon for Applejack now. That would've been an excellent twist. There are still plenty of other characters just begging for the Necromantic treatment, though!
6204538 Yeah, Bon Mot isn't exactly the friendliest guy around. Still solidly on the good side, though.
6204357 Argh, you ponies make me want to write a sequel...!

Sequel for Weirdo Central is always appreciated
6208934
By all means, feel free to use the offspring of my minds.
6208934 Yessss, let the ponies flow through you... So long as it's not Applejack's tongue.
6208680 I agree - I really like the bipolarity/duality given to Fluttershy here. It both suits her character and makes for incredibly good Faerie lore.
I didn't see the tatzlpony thing coming - I, too, was expecting something more along the lines of lycanthropes - but it definitely works. Especially with the lasso.
Turns out ED is sometimes useful. If they didn't featured this story together with the original, I would probably never found it, and I'm glad I did, because it was really good, and in perfect fit with the TNAoLaH.

This was a great story but I am a little saddened at the choice of antagonist. It seems like you can't have a story with champions of law and righteousness without most of them being absolute prick zealots who do bad things and just think they're good. Or getting treated like 'special red shirts' when they're meant to be the elite of the elite, noble and wise, ready to smite beings which do evil and protect the innocent - no matter their race or creed.
Given AJ's position as 'Sheriff' I was thinking it'd be a motley crew of disgruntled ponies and creatures who AJ's kept from going hog wild in Ponyville. Not paladins, considering that Celestia would clearly know about Ponyville and just what it was like. Not ordering its destruction or martial law seems to imply she likes things the way they are, and her soldiers and paladins more or less should understand that.
7358451 Between this and the Paladin hate on Necromantic (which I edit for Absol whenever I get a chance) I actually ended up writing a sequel that's in editing right now. Turns out rage at my readers is great motivation to slam out twenty pages of horsewords. Speaking of, anyone interested in editing? The usual crew is kinda taking a while and I always like a second opinion.

Waiting for the sequel!
OMGWTFBBQ. Righteous and Sweetie Drops agreeing on something!

that particular choice of attacks. > that particular choice of attack.
Rereading this again. Originally I thought that she meant she was going to eventually lose her mental fight against her monstrous side and need to be put down. Now it occurs to me she might mean she acquires perpetual youth... or maybe that "Grey Gaurds" generally don't live long enough to collect retirement pay due to the dangers of the job.
Which is it she means?
10097882
Really, it could be pretty much any of the above. Grey Guards aren't exactly a uniform bunch to begin with, and the physical and psychic struggles each one faces are totally unique. Some give in to the temptation and become monsters, some die fighting the good fight, but one thing they have in common is almost none of them ever really retire. The nature of the job means the ponies that do it are the sort to never stop until they finally just let go in their sleep one night. And yeah, there are a few that seem to just stop aging and keep going for far longer than is normal, but they're more the exception than the rule.
Not much story.
