Don't think about it.

I agree. I didn't even read the dang thing, and it still creeped me out.

oh, I think I might understand. Applebloom was stoned by a cockatrice, right? And being able to not open doors and stuff like that was because she was slowly turning into a stone? Only thing I didn't understand was the thing with Granny Smith. Can cockatrices mimic voices?

6284003 My theory is that the Everfree Forest itself wants to kill Apple Bloom, so it hypnotized her into entering it. Maybe there's some truth to the Pony of Shadows myth after all... :pinkiecrazy:

This style of storytelling is very similar to Five Nights at Freddy's. Very few details are presented as to what actually happened, forcing the reader to fill in the blanks themselves. This is a difficult thing to pull off, as some readers might find the lack of a comprehensive narrative frustrating. I'll admit, I was quite frustrated the first time I read this. You really have to reread this tale over and over again to pick up on all of the clues and put the pieces together. :duck:

If you have the patience for such things, then this story makes for a fantastic spooky tale. If nothing else, the mood is successfully conveyed, and I was afraid for little Apple Bloom. As I said, the narrative style is an acquired taste, but for the most part, it did work for me. So, yeah. Credit where credit is due.

Damn. I read through the entire thing, and I can really sympathise for Apple Bloom. As a little kid, her stream of consciousness is painful to read since she has all the childhood fears that one normally sees such as fear of the dark, fear of the unknown, etc without the life's experience to really be a bit courageous.

The whole dream-state thing she has going on in response to the cockatrice's petrifaction really is terrifying, especially since she didn't even realise she was dreaming. There are a few hints here and there (such as being unable to think of the reason why Granny along with BM and AJ were gone) along with the general unrealistic scenario, but nothing that a filly would be able to think logically over. I imagine the stone doors were a bit of her subconscious telling her she was petrified, and of course the scary thing that skitters in the dark being the cockatrice itself.

Saying that, if Apple Bloom had a nightmare like this while petrified, I wonder what Twilight experienced while she was petrified in The Stare Master.

You'll never see this, I guess, but this was excellent. It's a real shame this story hasn't gotten more attention.

Thanks, bud

Well that was terrifying. Thank you Twilight for freeing her.

Happy 8th Anniversary!
