This story is about Samuel S.
On his birthday he recieved a gift from his mother. A diary. Reluctantly he starts using this new 'thing'.
During the story the characters will grow up and timewise they end up some time after the main six has vanquished Nightmare Moon. The story switches between diary/journal entries and third person omniscient narrating.
Kudos to my friends and mr Salacar for proof-reading.

ah come on guys. it's good enough to continue but it's also a decent stand alone. goes with that entire sad thing. Sometimes life just goes on and you never get to see them again. Heck I'm only guessing more is coming because he didn't have a diary entry about Rainbow doing well at the best young fliers int he news or something and moving on.

I feel the need to comment. Thanks for the feedback. I'm glad you all seem to like it. I was quite nervous before releasing it since it's not only the first pony-fic that I've released, but the first story thing I've ever released.
Obviously if there's something that you feel is missing, or is plain out bad feel free to comment about it. However please do try to keep the feedback constructive.
Regarding a second chapter. The thought of making it a one chapter wonder crossed my mind, but.as the story itself suggests (incomplete) there will be more chapters to follow. I'll do my best to get part 2 out asap. I might lock myself up this weekend, just to write write write. But as of now, part 2 is not finished.

Anyway I'm surprised this isn't more popular. I do wish I noticed more Swift in this chapter since it is so long and he was followed the entire time.
I don't mean it wouldn't work like this but I half expected after the first chapter we'd still follow him and he'd find Rainbow's diary or something later.
skimming this I only saw him referenced and getting to know Rainbow more.

I was thinking of maybe making it so that chapter two instead of entirely focus on Dash, having a bit of both. But since I'm not entirely done with part three yet I figured I'd rather publish a chapter.
Might switch around a little in the future, for future readers, so that the events are more chronological.
Wow. Just wow. That was WAY over my expectations. I was expecting a decent, slightly above average fic, but instead, I got this beautiful masterpiece! I could go on for days about how awesome and impressive of a job you've done with this chapter. Great freaking job. There's few missing words, grammar, and spelling mistakes here and there, but for the most part, it was pretty solid. There were a few times where it seemed a bit flat such as, "Samuel woke up." Nothing too major. 3 dislikes and only 8 likes? What is with people!? The plot of the first and third chapters was excellent, but I think the second could use a bit of revising to make this a top notch fic. I would express my enjoyment of all of the good parts of this chapter, but I would end up going on for hours. Again, fantastic job. Personally, I'd like to see an epilogue, but I suppose it isn't entirely necessary. I'll throw over a watch to see if you can get any more nice stories out
Oh, and I also think that the title doesn't really do this story justice. It's a nice play on words, but doesn't come off to seem as to what would be an interesting fic. Just thought I'd put that out there. Also, I feel you should really think about making shorter chapters to release them at a more frequent rate so there aren't any 3 month gaps between updates. In hindsight, I probably should've just edited my original comment... Oh well! Too late now!

Yup. Have been thinking of writing shorter chapters in the future. It as due to inexperience I didn't do it this time. As I was finished with the first chapter I was like. "Omg need to publish NOW!" and published it pretty much straight away, without having started on the second chapter.

I agree. the pun is there but it something like the Journal would have been better. Then again my own pun titled story is no better
Still this was a really good read with my only complaint being that the ending was a bit fast. Could have used something like Rainbow liking the new book enough to start reading Sam's first book or something but outside that I liked every bit of it.

Yeah. I felt slightly uncertain when it came to the end. It did indeed go a bit fast. I might look in to it in the future, to see if I can make sense of it.

A minor gripe, but could you give the Daring Do author a name? Seems kinda jarring for a pony with a relatively important role in the story to just go through it being called the Daring Do Author. It comes off as awkward compared to the rest of the narrative.

This... was.... the... best, thing I have EVER read! When I get on my PC, IMA have ALOT of praises too give this story. In my opinion, this should've been featured,. On the contuary, are you gonna possibly do a sequel? I mean, there is a lot of room to expand upon this, and you ended it with an easy sequel starter. Anyways, loved it man!

There might be a sequel, actually. But I haven't got that many ideas, as of yet. Time will tell. A lot of other stories in my mind at the moment.
