7791210 It can be written both ways, from the way I take it. The actual definition is for the spelling "impostor" but there are other things of media portraying the word as "imposter." Right there, it's also saying it's spelled wrong, so I don't believe it's a spelling error.
Along with that, this website (http://grammarist.com/spelling/imposter-impostor/) says that both are used in various situations, but that the spelling "impostor" is concluded as the more widely accepted and proper version.
