The ride back from Camp Everfree is the perfect time to relax. Or to tease your friends... though that can lead to some unexpected repercussions for both the teaser and the teased.

Third-place winner of the Barcast's Make Rarity Not Garbage contest. Rated Teen for frank discussion of mortality.

I adore any depiction of Rarity that pays attention to her status as a business owner/operator and pairs it well with lil' Miss Dramatic's other traits.

This was cute, FOMA.

So nice! ... And Rarity is awesome! Great convos!

Green slime? How blase. I was expecting at least burgundy slime. Or maybe puce

Your Rarity is un-garbage indeed. And I quite liked Sunset here, too!

Discord likes the classics.

Not bad. Were all the Linkin Park references intentional or a happy accident?

8458952
When you're so entrepreneurial that even your legal minor analogue runs her own business, it's clearly an important part of your character for the author to bear in mind.

8459009
Always happy to add to it.

8459224
When the event resonates with a certain Grand Galloping Gala, the color of the slime's pretty locked in stone. Granted, violet was also an option, but where was Mr. Discord going to find a volcano on such short notice?

8459591
Entirely accidental. Could you give me some examples?

8459671
Eh, don't mind me. I had Linkin Park on the brain because I was thinking about a chiptune version of "What I've Done", ran into that turn of phrase in the story in a different context, then hit this bit later:

"As I said, darling, bigger and better," Rarity said in a flat tone that spoke of her focus being mostly elsewhere. "And in the end, does it really matter?"

As I've often had to point out to my own readers, I was reading too much into nothing. ^^;;

" Actually being responsible for all the magic in the world is... Definitely glad that's not the case."

"Mr. Discord?"

"Yes, Ms. Shimmer?"

"How on earth did you manage to get plaid slime?"

"Not on Earth, of course."

show it to a Twilight

Rarity is a true shipper :raritywink:

If Twilight sleeping against Sunset is enough to ship Sunlight, the movie was shipping Rarijack hard. Rarity fainted into Applejack's arms and they held hands at the end twice, although not with entwined fingers.

Anyway, Rarity is very perceptive and has a lot of foresight here. Not only is she prepared for anything, but she'd do anything to be with her friends, even if it means spending time somewhere she hates. Congratulations, Rarity, you're the new Element of Loyalty.

8459704
As I'm sure you can attest, I'm the last person who can complain about people reading too much into things. :derpytongue2:

8460020
That would be the joke, yes.
Aren't jokes usually funny?
Aren't you supposed to be keeping a universe together?
Aren't you supposed to be writing it?
Touché.

8460211
You know what they say, once you go purplesmart, you'll never be far apart.

8460822
Do note who Rarity sat next to on the bus back to Canterlot. :ajsmug: I am nothing if not internally consistent.

In any case, there are often times when Elements of Harmony can overlap. Giving what's needed when you don't want to hits at least three of them.

Um, sequel. That's all I have to say. :twilightsheepish:

"I do. I wish Twilight and Timber the best."
"There we have it, then."
Sunset nodded. "Yes."
"Good."
"Great."
"I give them a month."
"Less." Sunset gasped and clapped her hands over her mouth.

Insta-faved.

Seriously though, I applaud you greatly for taking some of the... let's be charitable and say questionable decisions and storytelling of that movie and making something entertaining and meaningful out of it.

Fantastic. Now I just want to see Twilight's reaction (either Twilight, preferably both, mind you)

if this turns out to be an Sjw story I will sue you

"Pish-tosh."

this is Posh erasure

Poor Rarity. It's worth it, but, nothing like the first creative project to let go of :fluttershysad:

Definitely a really great Rarity. Still can't buy she owns her own business, at all. Wants to at some point, of course, but outright having one already? Just, too hard to buy for her right now. Still, good way to explain her one note LoEF performance, and really well done story.

It seems that the best way to make Rarity not garbage is to take one of her more garbage performances, where her personality was largely reduced to "10 PRINT DRESSES 20 GOTO 10," and find a reason for it.

Thank you for trying to salvage the horror that is Rarity's character from "Legend of Everfree". She's is my favorite character, and listening to her lines for that movie just...UGH! It managed to made me sad AND pissed off at the same time. So while nothing will ever truly fix that horrid script writing, I appreciate your effort to salvage it by give it some context. Nicely done!

PS Gotta love that SunLight!

This was good. Much more thoughtful than a run of the mill Rariset story. Reconciling her antics at Everfree with the sharp-minded fashionista we know from her pony self surely took effort, and it paid off.

Kind of want a sequel. Preferably with Princess Twi but I would take either to be honest.

The ride back from Camp Everfree was much quieter than the one to it. After assorted wilderness activities, surviving yet another brush with Equestrian magic run amok, and rebuilding the same dock eight times, the students of Canterlot High were justifiably exhausted. Sunset Shimmer was content to watch the scenery pass by with droopy eyes. Twilight Sparkle leaned against her, fast asleep with no sign of Midnight tormenting her dreams.

Thats good to know.

"Less." Sunset gasped and clapped her hands over her mouth.

Agreed

Rarity said nothing as she got a notepad and jotted a few things down. Just before Sunset asked again, she said, "Having one last chance to exercise my creativity solely on my terms was one reason for my focus on the fashion show, yes. For the rest... Well, to put it simply, Sunset, I detest camping."

Figured she'd say that.

"Pish-tosh." Rarity waved off the idea. "We discussed this at the Friendship Games. Just because you made a few poor choices doesn't mean you have to feel responsible for every bit of misused magic in this world."

She's right you know, even if sunset was repsonible the girls don't blame her.

Sunset blushed. "I thought you were shipping me with Sci-Twi."

I am.

I've realized in recent years that Rarity is one of my favorite MLP characters. Definitely top 5.

Man I wish I could be that fashion oriented. I'm a mess :(

Nice character piece as well. I always see Sunset and Rarity being close friends.
