Applejack isn't a mare who's afraid of hard graft, so joining the Dream Coast's latest Shoreline Shape Up seems like the perfect working holiday. It may be a rocky assignment, though...

I've been repeating the last line aloud and my family's looking at me weird but to my shame and embarassment I'm not getting it

9730096 I'm having to work at it myself. THe last part of it is "preservation society", but I can't figure out what "the seasakel" is.

I'm not getting it either so don't feel so bad.

Well, I'm going to have to come back to this one when I'm not on my phone. Best of luck in the judging.

Thanks! You may thank your phone later, of course... :pinkiecrazy:

Whoops. I actually meant to write "You may not thank your phone later, of course..."

“I’m just a silly pony,” said Applejack, and she grinned.

You really know how to write things I'll like. :3

Oof, that pun tho.

Even though the (really pretty awful) pun came first in my mind, it was actually the ability to include that AJ line in that context that made me go ahead and write this thing.

Firstly, thanks for taking the time to write and share your work; this was a really interesting read, and I enjoyed passing the time with it. It kinda also left me a bit confused... I got the punchline (kudos, that was a glorious pun), but was the punchline intended to be the focus of the story? I was just left feeling that there was a lot of background detail and content developed in the run-up to it that didn't seem to me to go anywhere by the end... and I'm only raising this point because the background detail and content were so damn good. I was seriously invested in that. You have a really nice knack of delivering interesting world-building content in a really subtle way, and you crafted a small part of that world that I'd easily spend a lot more of my time getting to know.

Or maybe I just missed the subtleties of it all, in which case just ignore my ramblings and accept a very hearty double thumbs-up!

First of all, let me return the thanks: I love getting feedback, so thank you so much for taking the time to offer it! :yay:

was the punchline intended to be the focus of the story?

Yes! This story is a feghoot, which in essence is a story written specifically to build up to a wonderful/terrible pun at the end. So yes, all that background detail was indeed included just to serve the purpose of the final line. That said, I did enjoy doing the world-building, so...

I'm only raising this point because the background detail and content were so damn good. I was seriously invested in that.

Thank you. I'm glad you felt it worked, largely since this was the first proper, complete story I'd written for more than two years. (The previous two are a rather poor sequel and an on-hiatus-indefinitely thing.) I wasn't expecting to recapture my 2017 form, but I was hoping I could at least produce something worth reading. I'm glad you felt I managed that.

Also, I don't know whether you're into G1 at all, but there are several Easter eggs in the story for G1 fans. :moustache:

Finally, a slightly belated welcome to Fimfiction! Not only am I always delighted to see new people join up even in 2019, but your first story has caught my attention. Adding it to the Read it Later list.

Oh you're most certainly welcome. Thanks for all of the additional context and clarification. That sounds like an... interesting competition? Try as I might I don't think I could stomach building up a story just for a punchline, even though I do love a good pun, but it certainly generated some neat stories. I'm also pleased to hear that it helped you get some words on paper, uh screen, again!

And thank you for the welcome! hope you enjoy the story when you get round to it!
