10194620 Well, Celestia and Luna had fused into Queen Eclipse (Solar variant because daytime) and Twilight was already fused with Rainbow, either fusion could have added Cadance to them to gain another alicorn's worth of magic power AND the super-flexible cartoon-physics powers of a Spinel, PLUS Rainbow Quartz was on-scene, albeit a different-looking variant because of personality differences...
So, yeah, ponies had allies and options if David had hostile intent.
