Scourge the yellow cat

"Welcome to Earth. Population: Hell." ~Scourge 2018

Equestria: A nation stretching across the mighty continent of Equis. The vast and diverse land, ranging from the Crystal Mountains of the Far North to the deserts of Saddle Arabia, it has seen many a foe and has defeated them all. However, something was different. Everywhere from the mighty city of Canterlot to the humble town of Ponyville, from busy Manehattan to quiet Our Town, one thing is common: there is no sentient life left. Outside of Equestria, the result is essentially the same, with any sentient race suddenly gone from their settlements. Based on the television series Life After People, this story will try to repeat the energy that the series has done. This isn't the story of how they might vanish...it's the story of what will happen to the world they left behind.

Welcome to Equus, Population: Zero.

Seriously. I hate Life After People and parodying it is just wrong. -_-

I can understand, and even though I like it, there are some things I do not enjoy about it. This story is really because I only think that it would be interesting to see what that kind of concept would be if applied to the MLP:FIM world.

I'll admit, I haven't truly seen Life after People. But, I'll be watching the series as you publish this, so it should be a wild ride. Looking forward to it.

I never thought about if all of the sentient creatures on Equus suddenly vanished.

If all sentient species disappeared then it'd be a vacant, empty nothingness with literally nothing but germs and plants.

This premise might be stronger had FiM not already gone to painstaking lengths to establish that all life forms there are sentient, no exceptions. This is not a criticisms of the story, just pointing out something readers and authors may overlook about the actual series. Feral lifeforms simply don’t exist there.

Just for the sake of it, if all sentient beings were erased, wouldn't Angel count too? Sure, he's considered a pet. But, he's actually every smart. Not trying to bash you, but just something that makes me wonder.

Well, sentient life in this instance means the species that were capable of making CIVILIZATIONS. Angel, despite being very smart to understand pony culture and whatnot, isn't quite at the level of creating a civilization-smart.

Yeah, but I am going to ignore that fact, despite what the series says. Not ALL species can talk, or make civilizations. So although they may be 'sentient', they aren't advanced.

All I can say is that I recommend it. It is surprisingly well done.

What's so bad about it? I always thought it worked because it never said why mankind vanished.

Eh. :/ I'm the guy who doesn't like end of the world scenarios. :/

So far an interesting read, albeit the execution was a bit heavy-handed at times. Sometimes you tend to get a bit repetitive in your poetic descriptions, and oftentimes you slip to using lengthly and wordy run-on sentences. Furthermore, I’d stay away from the bit of exposition about this being a thought experiment. Remember that there are certain things the story conveys on its own, and thus there is no need to emphasize them so obviously. Stating your ideas so openly sort of takes away from the impact. Especially given you then repeat the same information in the author’s note.

Also, remember that you don’t need to use place stamps (Sweet Apple Acres) as movies or comics do. You can convey the location through your words.

Thank you, I will take this into consideration.

You’re welcome. Let me know if anything was unclear or if you have any additional questions pertaining to writing.

When will the next chapter be released?

Working on it at the moment; have the general idea down, just need to hide my time to execute it to the way I want it.

I wonder who’s perspective will this be telling the story

It's been over 2 months since you released this story and almost 1 month since you were on FIMfiction last. What happened?

To be honest with you, I've been neglecting my incomplete stories badly. Most of it is my fault, not at all checking the site for a while, and the other points are still mostly my fault. One reason why is with what is very obviously going on in the world, where although I have a lot more free time, I also have to do school work and check on my friends daily. Another reason is that I have a medical condition called ADD. ADD, to simplify things, makes it so that the individual tends to tire faster than normal, as well as tending to not focus on one thing clear for a long length of time. Again, I rather wish to be blamed for my negligence to be at fault, and my ADD condition is not by any means a scapegoat. Hope you understand.

That makes sense. Though I’m still looking forward to more chapters for Life after ponies, especially now that I have watched a more recent version of Life after people.

Is the next chapter almost done?
