Cozy Glow's mother and father return from a long trip just before Twilight's coronation, and are understandably unhappy at being parents to a statue. Where have they been all this time, though? And how did their daughter turn out the way she did?
A complete redo of a fic I briefly started before deleting, this time featuring extra character development, a more coherent plot and less irritating narration. I hope this is a marked improvement on the original, because I really like this idea and want to explore it more.

I thought your previous iteraton of this was good but I feel this one is a little bit better. Hopefully Cozy's parents can ensure her a happier ending. I also liked the Spike moments. Its always nice to see him get treated well.
First they petrify them without trial when they gave Starlight and Discord a second chance and now they make an example out of them. Btutal and hypocritical.

Thank you for your kind remarks. I'll try my hardest to ensure this story is worth reading. The show didn't really give us much of a clue regarding Cozy's parental figures, which gives writers like me a great chance to 'fill in the blanks' with our own headcanons.
In terms of Cozy's fate when she got separated from her folks, 'lost' can have quite a few meanings. Needless to say, the truth behind their parting will soon become clear...

Well it honestly didn't bother me that much. Rarity's fussing and Discord's narration feel very in character which was a big part of the more successful parts of the show. Consistent characterization in the midst of stressful situations. Still be interesting to see what you come up with, even though I was looking forward to the original myself.

The narrator wasn't meant to be Discord in the original, if it's any consolation. And the surreal narration would've been too much of a distraction from the more serious tone I wanted to convey, so I don't regret scrapping it. A little Mood Whiplash is okay, but a lot can be a major detriment. In any case, I hope you enjoy what lies ahead.

Fair, but it was still the bare minimum and both Starlight and Discord got second chances which they rejected beforehand. Still, Tirek and Cozy got none and neither of the three got a trial though.

Technically, Discord only got a second chance after they turned him to stone for a season and a half...and that was completely without a trial mind you. The trio were treated exactly the same way. Since we didn't see them after the time-skip either as a statue or walking around, just about anything could have happened to them in the meantime.
Guess I'll be tracking this one from now on. Curious to see where this will go. Cozy is by far one of my favourite villains in the show, and it is nice to see something that expands on her character.
Though I do hope you're not trying to make her seem too sympathetic, as I'm kinda tired of people giving her the leather pants treatment. Making her more three-dimensional is one thing, but I've read way too many fanfics that gloss over her crimes or write her as a completely different pony than the one we saw in the show, and it's kinda getting old by now.
Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing how this story handles her.

True, but in Discord's case he was a powerful being who most likely couldn't be contained or defeated in any other way. Thats why I'm not too angry at Tirek not getting one (although his depowered state could make it possible if you can stop him from stealing magic). Cozy meanwhile, is just a filly who along with her cohorts have been completely depowered by the friendship beams (which funnily enough petrified Discord) meaning a trial could have easily been doable.
And considering that Discord proved that major villains could be reformed before at least School Raze and he got forgiven without punishment after everything he pulled after he was released for reformation (which he clearily didn't want and was forced to participate in) it makes the trio's treatment in comparison have a bad taste in my mouth.

Turning them to stone did prevent them from escaping and starting over again...at least until they figure out what to do with them. Despite Discord's line of them staying 'together forever', it's very unlikely they're actually gonna stay a statue forever. After all, Discord was gonna be contained forever when they defeated him, but they changed their minds later. Plus, it's not up to Discord whether Twilight wants to unfreeze them later or not.

The problem with that is that they only reformed him because Celestia wanted to use his magic. That's literally the only reason given.
None of the trio have talents that would make it worth it for them to be pulled out of stone and reformed, especially given that such a punishment isn't liable to improve their opinion of the ones who put them there. Cozy was put in prison next to Tirek, a guy they never bothered to check up on for nearly a thousand years, so it's unlikely reformation was ever on the table for either one of them. The ponies stoning them alongside Chrysalis (largely because of her input) doesn't bode well for the three of them, with or without Discord's line.

Then why didn't she encase Starlight in stone? Her actions almost cause the end of Equestria multiple times and if you believe that multiple timelines exist, may have actually succeeded. In what way were you incapable of containing Cozy in any other way?

This is the only good point that was brought up by a princess in this chapter.
That's something that always bothered me. I can understand the action but turning a kid into stone and banishing her to Tartarus, it felt odd, out of place for a kids show and the nature of Equestria
