Following your own advice can be incredibly difficult, especially when it reopens old wounds and aggravates fresh ones. Excellent snapshot of Granny at a very rough time in her life.

Ouch.

This one hit particularly close to home; Significant Other had to deal with similar matters with his family when we got married...

I hope so!

Thank you sir. Good advice can be a bitter tonic. One can hardly blame Granny for not taking it, even if she knows it's right for somepony else.

If this in any way reflected that experience, I'm very sorry. :fluttercry:

The strange thing for me with this story is that Granny's feelings were not its original focus, even though it wouldn't work without them now. It took darn near three years of reflection to figure out how to finish it, and Granny's anger was one of the last bits that clicked into place.

Three years ago, the focus of this in my heart was a meditation about opening up to a distant friend. I guess the intervening years have shown me more about the bane and blessing of doing so. The great thing about writing is that I get to cheat and let my characters experience both forks in that road at the same time. If only real life were as simple.

This is a touchy subject matter. But... it is a natural, believable thing to have happened.
