Not necessarily. The episode that this story draws from took place at the end of season five; the Big Mac/Sugar Belle romance began near the beginning of season seven.
It just means that for this story to fit in with show canon, the relationship ultimately didn't last.
It's criminal that no one has ever done this pairing before. It took over 2,000 days from the airdate of The Mane Attraction until you wrote the story. That is more than 5 years for someone to be like, "Oh, Rara and AJ were childhood friends. What if Rara and Big Mac ever had a crush on each other?" The FiMFiction community is clearly off its game, and as someone who likes to write original pairings, I'm putting some of that blame squarely on my own shoulders. Luckily, you came along and corrected this egregious mistake, and did so excellently.
The way these two interact and grow in their relationship feels organic and earned, yet you also made it feel real, because you were willing to show that life doesn't magically stop just because you've found someone. I loved seeing these two fall for each other, and I felt their pain as they struggled to make it work. And that ending line: priceless!

I was sitting on this concept for almost ten months, once I realized it was something nobody had done. And I spent the entire time leading up to the contest going "There's no way nobody else has thought of this. There's no way." And somehow, it was.
Excellent.
And of course AJ wouldn't notice any of what was going on between Mac and Rara.
This feels so sweet and simple, I imagine it was deceptively tricky to pull off. Nicely done!
That ending though. Simply perfect, start to finish
This was really cute and well written. Going in, I thought the only connection would be Rara knowing AJ, but the Pony Tones connection struck me with its simple brilliance. The romance worked really well.
Gotta love more realistic takes on love. Sweet and believable! And everyone can use a lil more Rara in their lives.
Oh my gosh! This was such a lovely story. I loved the interaction between Rara and Mac. I hope we eventually get a sequel because I too wanna see this relationship work out
