Epilogue

Epilogue

The Generosity of Greed

Princess Celestia and Luna were sitting on their throne, feeling content with themselves, albeit crestfallen over the sacrifice they had witnessed the other day. Celestia looked up at the ceiling, thinking to herself on how her subjects would manage to go about their days without the homunculi at their side. What also crossed her mind was how Discord brought up the homunculi's dark pasts despite them making their big change in Equestria. It made her wonder about Discord himself...

"Majesties." Came a familiar voice that snapped Celestia out of her thought. Luna and herself noticed Shining Armor and Cadence making their way inside with sad smiles on their face "We have visitors who wish to go out into the royal gardens. We also hoped if you'd like to join us as well." Celestia and Luna held knowing smiles as the former nodded.

"Of course." Celestia responded as she and Luna rose from the throne "Let's go, shall we?" The four ponies made their way out of the throne room to see the element bearers and Spike standing outside, waiting patiently for the others.

"Thank you for allowing us to visit, Princess Celestia." Twilight said politely, though it was clear in her eyes she wasn't entirely happy despite the smile on her face.

"You know you and your friends are always welcome here, my faithful student." Celestia responded warmly to Twilight "I can already tell your reasons for arriving here."

"Heh, that obvious, huh?" Rainbow Dash asked in a wistful tone.

"We owe 'em a lot o' visits fer all they've done. Especially..." Applejack trailed off before she noticed how Twilight was hanging her head.

"A visit is the least we can do for them." Luna piped up "Let us make for the gardens." They were trotting along the halls, until they noticed a guard approach them, bowing in reverence to the princesses.

"Princesses, you have another visitor to also wishes to see the gardens." The guard informed.

"But who else would have a reason to join us?" Rarity asked. A pony was approaching from the stairs behind the guard, and she gasped when she recognized Blueblood, only he was seen with a soft smile and a patch on his chest.

"Greetings, everypony." Blueblood greeted with a curt bow "I wished to pay my respects as well. I hope you do not mind my company." He said in a tone entirely different from his formerly haughty self.

"Not at all." Rarity replied with a kind smile "You were just as involved as the rest of us. The more the merrier." She said as she trotted up to his side and gave him a brief nuzzle on the cheek. Spike watched the scene indifferently, though was somewhat happy himself.

"Thank you." Blueblood nuzzled Rarity back. With the group together they made their way out of the castle.

Outside in the royal gardens near the grass maze, the group looked upon the statue of Discord and the six homunculi that he held in his arms. They were revolted by that victorious grin on his face while he held their friends tightly. Twilight and Rainbow Dash neared Envy and Greed.

Greed, despite the many injuries he sustained, was seen with a smile of contentment as his eyes closed. Twilight noticed how he was satisfied beneath his injuries that she herself had inflicted upon him. She caressed his left cheek with a hoof as she stared with a look of longing, a tear streaming down her right eye.

Rainbow Dash was looking at Envy's gentle smile, as if it were waiting patiently for something. The cyan pegasus held back a laugh at the thought of Envy actually being patient, let alone gentle. She then sighed when she remembered that amazing kiss that Envy sent her off with before its petrification.

Rarity's ears drooped as she stood next to Blueblood, who closed his eyes and hung his head. Spike stood on Rarity's opposite side as he watched Twilight get a closer look at Greed. Applejack took off her hat and held it to her chest as she held a mournful look. Pinkie and Fluttershy sniffled as she looked at the statue.

Shining Armor and the princesses held their own solemn gazes towards the statue as they gave their imprisoned friends a moment of silence.

After enough time had passed, Twilight and Rainbow Dash moved away from the statue and back towards the others.

"Thank you for your time, princess." Twilight said as she rubbed her eyes "This was all we needed before getting back to our lives. We'll be back to see them again in the near future."

"Yeah, thanks." Rainbow Dash added as she landed next to Twilight.

"The pleasure is ours, my little ponies. You're always welcome to visit the homunculi at your leisure." Celestia responded before she and Twilight shared a hug. The element bearers and Spike then took their leave, trying to lift their spirits as they walked away. Blueblood watched them leave before turning to the princesses.

"I, too, should take my leave. I have several tasks to attend to that require my presence." Blueblood said before he smiled "You'll be happy to know that I shall make a difference in Equestria from here on out. I will do my part and make it a better place for everypony."

"See to it that you do, dear nephew." Luna said with a smile as they shared a nuzzle before the prince left as well, leaving Shining Armor and the princesses to look upon the statue.

"You know, even if the homunculi were monsters at one point, they were the greatest heroes anypony could ask for." Cadence said.

"They were more than that..." Celestia said as she looked at the distant image of the ponies and dragon leaving the gardens "They were their friends. They taught us that even the most despicable being can make a change for the better."

"Indeed." Luna said "If only there was a way to reverse their horrible predicament." Celestia listened to Luna before she had an idea. A small smile was seen on her face as she looked ahead at Discord and his manic grin.

'Perhaps there is, Luna.' Celestia thought to herself as she rubbed her chin 'Perhaps there is...'

5 months later

"You're certain about this, sister? Think about what you're doing!" Luna said.

"I already have, Luna. And I know for a fact that the Elements of Harmony are what we need to set things straight..."

"But...You're going to free him as well. You know that, right?"

"Luna..." Celestia said with a confident smile "That is the intention." Luna stared dumbfounded before she sighed in defeat.

"This may be the craziest plan you've ever thought of. I'll notify your guards to get the chariots ready. I hope you know the danger that lies ahead if you go through with this."

"I'm aware, but I also know to be prepared. After all, Discord, much like the homunculi, was a monster himself..."

The End

Author's Note:

Not my shortest chapter, but I'm glad it's finished.

I've given it some thought, and I don't think I want to make another story revolving around this. It'll just end up being Keep Calm and Flutter On with the homunculi involved.

Special thanks goes to Pixel Brony and Dawn Flower for their help during my story's construction, and to you, my readers, for actually going out of your way to read my crap.

This is my first completed story without any cover art (Not counting my April Fool's story). :rainbowlaugh:

I hope you all enjoyed this story. Now I shall go back to updating my other three ongoing fics at my own pace.

Thank you for reading! :moustache:

NOOOOOO! why why must the good ones always have to end!?

great story but bad ending i Freaking hate cliff hangers but still great story 8/10 from time to add to the favs.

4984018 If you're going by the epilogue, refer to my authors notes

4984132 i did the cliff hanger is that it never is going to continue i like story i read that i care about to have a good ending that wraps up every thing in a nice bow or continues in the next story this story ends in a cliff hanger based on the story i wish it could have a ending ending that is happy but this this. It is just meh it is still a great story it just this chapter and you not making another one makes it a little less better it is still great in my opinion better then the first but still and and i feel that screws with the story in some way can some time kill a story for me it did not much for this one but it sill did a little if you said you would have continued it would of been 9/10 maybe even 10/10 but the ending loss some points in my opinion . But still great story and i love your other works.

I loved the story, but I have seen this situation happen before where the author claims to not be writing another and just does one day when he has writers block for a completely different story. I'm hoping that's what happens here because for the story to end with 'Oh, hey, remember that quest they went on to put Discord in stone, I'm going to undo that and not write what happens.' isn't a very good ending. Don't get me wrong, the story and everything else was great, 10/10, it's just that ending that brings it down.

So, despite what you say I will be checking every now and then (when I can remember) for an 'out of no where' sequel.

4985770 Consider the fact that when Discord set up the arena match, he already made it to where the fight's terms were set in stone.

:facehoof: . . . . . . It was good  . . . . . I guess . . . . . . . :facehoof: . . . . . . . still no alchemy there, though.:unsuresweetie:

4996111 Look, it doesn't work that way. The homunculi - Father included - were merely transported to a different life via the Gate of Truth. They never performed alchemy, nor have any knowledge of it save for what they've witnessed from the humans who practice it. Father's the only one with knowledge of alchemy out of the homunculi.

4996418 Mmmh . . . true, but still a little disappointing, don't you think?

4996648 Not really. :unsuresweetie:

Although, I wonder what would happen were I to make a crossfic with the Elric Brothers entirely different from this fic and the one before it

4996655 You're right there. Considering I haven't seen any Elric Brother's cross that is worth reading and the wait for updates to come. I say go for it, if you have the time and will.

While I did enjoy reading this story, I have to say there was just too many issues with it that I just can't seem to get over, even now. The most glaring is the Main Six's reactions to learning about the Homunculi's past. Wrath was a warmongering tyrant who committed genocide? Well, he's a soldier so it's cool, he's different now. Envy murdered an innocent child and sparked a war, among other things? Well, he's not evil anymore so oh well. Lust manipulated and killed others for her own gain? Better keep an eye on her... I mean really, there was more suspicion of Lust then there was anyone else, even though her crimes were fairly mild compared to Wrath's and Envy's.

Friendship has it's place, but looking past the fact that the people you've befriended were once heinous abominations of war and slaughter because they seem to have repented is absurd. They are more trusting and forgiving to the Homunculi than they were to Discord when he was redeemed. Even before the end Season 4 Fluttershy was really the only one who trusted Discord. Which leads me to another issue, one that I actually feel is more personal preference.

Discord is sadistic, evil, and out for blood in this story, while in the show he's never actually done anything to physically harm the ponies. He's an immature trickster with reality warping powers. He's not out to hurt anyone, he just wants to have fun. But, this falls into the same lines as Tyranlestia, and is an actual fandom interpretation of Discord. Since it's just my own personal feelings on the matter, this isn't something I can genuinely mark against the story as a whole, just my own personal enjoyment of it.

Now, it wouldn't be right if I didn't mention something good to go with the bad, because despite the fact that I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped it still had it's fair share of positives. Besides the fact that you had an idea, and actually took the time to formulate it into two entire stories to share said idea with others, you also did a good job with all the characters -beyond what was mentioned before-. The scenes where the Homunculi were discorded were actually fairly interesting. When I hit a point where I felt the story getting slow, it lifted right back up again once the Homunculi entered the picture. Two in particular really stood out for me;

Lust's, was my favorite of them. Her mannerisms, her words, it just did her former self justice. I actually did think there was going to be some steamy bits when she got Rarity against the wall, but I'm not disappointed with how things went in the slightest (except for Blueblood being that, but that's just because he's Blueblood.) She was cold, calculative, and felt like a predator when dealing with those two.

Now, I have to say I was fairly disappointed with Envy. Not from how it went down, but because there just wasn't enough of him. I was hoping to see him in all his sadistic glory, but it was over so fast that it just left me wanting more. Doesn't help that Envy was my favorite Homunculus in both anime.

That just leaves the ending. The dynamic battle between lovers for the amusement of a mad god, where the very embodiment of Greed sacrifices himself in the (almost)ultimate form of generosity. Honestly, the ending of that felt a bit too sappy for my tastes, but it did it's part and wrapped the whole story up rather nicely.

All in all, while the story was well written I felt that it fell short of it's predecessor. If this were a movie, I would say it would be a rental. Not something I'm going to rewatch, but not something I'm going to regret watching either.

5023381 I guess my stories (All of them :pinkiecrazy:) have their flaws. I'm just satisfied that you enjoyed it despite what wasn't in good taste to your eyes. Thank you for your reading

Mmm... Only read the first 5 chapters and the Epilogue.

Didn't appeal to me.

A Keep Calm and Flutter On with the Homonculi would have been awesome instead of this though.
I mean imagine Discord trying to recruit the Sins to his cause in opposition to the Mane 6. Like they all sort of accept him and all have to come to terms with letting go of past desires for current friendships. And mischief.

The problem is that I feel there is a LOT of significant context relating to Discord and the Homonculi and I keep lamenting the missed opportunity. Oh well. On to the Soul Eater story.

What?!
No Pride?!?

I-it's over? Then Lust and Rarity... IT WAS JUST ONE BIG SHIP TEASE?! :flutterrage:

5322617 Oh, you were shipping them? I didn't know that :trollestia:

5322929 Yes you did, you... you... AUUUUUUUUUGHH!!! :flutterrage:

4984132 Could you at least push yourself to do a one-shot?

5482841 Hrm...it'd probably be my biggest one if I were to actually undertake such a task and fit the entire episode into one chapter, but I'm not sure if I'd want to.

5483919 YOU HAVE TO!

Otherwise my ADHD mind will be formulating ways. I need something to go back to.

HOUSTON!

Damn it! I want more! That was the greatest series I've read on this site. I'm so happy I found you:twilightsmile: Why does everything good in my life end!!!:fluttercry:

5626730 You flatter me, and even I am saddened at whatever good things we have eventually dying out, whether from our own actions or time itself :ajsleepy:

5626995 I almost cried when it ended and that's saying something cause I never cry. I would ask for sequel but I know you don't really want to and also I would be sad still when it ended.

5627045 Yeah, sorry to disappoint, man. Thank you for reading, though

5627065 The pleasure was all mine!:pinkiehappy: but is in a definite no or maybe a chance in the future for more?

5627084 The former. I can't really go through with it.

5627104 Alright well time to read your other stories :pinkiehappy:

Bring them back! Please oh please bring them back! Except for Discord.

A wonderful story!
Maybe you will make a third book? The third book in which we will see the alchemy that was invented in EQUESTRIA!!!!... And then why did they decide to forget about her
