Twinkletail

I write poni. I am easily distracted. I like Oreos.

Pinkie and her sister Octavia meet up for the first time in years in a most unexpected place, and Pinkie learns that things at home have changed quite a bit. Based on the theory that the cello player at the Gala is a grown-up version of Pinkie's sister from Cutie Mark Chronicles.

OH GOOD GOD, I REMEMBER THIS. I was wondering if it was gonna be continued.
Funny running into it here.

Well that was uneventful.

For right now all I can say is MORE! :flutterrage:

Not a bad chapter, I like it.

Can i have some more please :fluttershysad:

D'aaaaaaaaaaaawwwwwwwww. :rainbowkiss:

Glad to see this is updated.

Well it's no wonder Pinkie Pie left that rock farm, the ponies who lived there always believe in doing things the same way regardless of anything.

I actually dislike the idea of Octavia being Pinkie's sister, but for this fic, I'll make an exception 'cause it's so amazing. :pinkiehappy:

DU DU DUUUU :pinkiegasp: dat cliff
Awsome work keep it up! :pinkiehappy:

Oh snap. Something tells me Aquarina's not going to be in a very happy mood. :pinkiegasp:

Pinkie Pie are you sure Twilight will keep her promise this time? :twilightoops:

Well better late then never Aquarina although if it were me I don't know if i'd forgive you so easily. The same goes to Pinkie Pie's parents, treating their own daughter like the black sheep of the family and not giving her space to be herself or even give her a chance to fit in is unexcuseable. At the least they realize they couldn'tve prevented Pinkie Pie running away.

Now this is a reunion I want to see!:pinkiehappy::pinkiehappy:

R.I.P.
edit: Yay no more R.I.P. :yay:

Actually, the next chapter is partially done! I expect it to go up within the next week

you know this story could use a slice of life tag.

2937345

Alrighty! Consider it done!

The last chapters should be up by tomorrow, I hope! One chapter is done, and I wanted to release it in tandem with the epilogue, which should be done tomorrow!

Ouch, right in the feels. :pinkiesad2:

Well that was a shocking turn of events. :pinkiegasp:

She better, or she'll have to deal with the 'Cupcakes' Pinkie.

So many feels...

:fluttercry: D-don't cry, Sonnet.. Dammit, don't cry..

*Gasps and coughs. Thumps his chest*

Ehhnn... :derpytongue2:

Hahhnnn...

Okay. I'm alright... :facehoof:

*Reads the chapter again* :rainbowderp:

Aaaaahhhnnnnn!... :fluttershbad:

What a tweest! :pinkiehappy:

This is a story I remember finding early on in my time in the fandom and it presented one of my earliest favorite pieces of fanon, that being the idea that Octavia was one of Pinkie's two sisters. That's since become an idea that's not only fallen to the wayside in the fandom, but now outright disproven via the canon of the show. Sticking to such an idea for the core of a story can be incredibly hard, I know this personally for one of my own stories. Too often authors become too enamored of their own headcanon ideas that it can lead to poor stories and hard feelings, but this is one time when the final product turns out pretty good. The story is overall paced pretty nicely with interesting flashbacks and expositions between the characters, and everyone involved seems to be portrayed pretty well in-character.

If I have any real qualms with this story, it's the "twist" ending. That nearly gave me whiplash to be honest. I can appreciate wanting to give things a "happy" ending, but I don't feel this is a story that needed this kind of a wrap-up. A little more explanation or build-up to it would make it easier to take, but as it is it's really rather abrupt. Still, it's certainly not enough to taint my enjoyment of the story as a whole. Well done, and I look forward to reading your newer work as it updates. :pinkiehappy:

Octavia is basically 'Inkie' Pie, see the resemblance? And 'Blinkie', or in this case, 'Aqua', she is a blue colour. Some people think that this is OC junk.

I love this story, but it's sad that everything has an ending... :raritycry: :raritydespair:

2939612 Ok, seriously, what are you doing? Are you re enacting Godzilla or something? :rainbowlaugh:

Cheesy and trashy end.

So, basically, what your telling me is;

Da beeg poneh deyed and den he woz soopa stong... strong and cam bak too laf!

BEST STORY WRITER EVER! :twilightoops: I'm so amazing...

Or, you know, he could have been close to death, but managed to hold on a little longer. It's not like he's cured of his sickness. He's just not dead yet.

I don't mind criticism in the slightest. I wasn't sure about the ending myself. When it's presented in an antagonistic fashion, though, that's when it bothers me.

What a nice happy ending :pinkiehappy:

This fanfiction is really similar to one I have read called going home... I'm wondering if you or that author may have taken ideas from one another. Anyways great story none the less and I really enjoyed it so thank you. :)

Story Title: Changing Octaves

Author: Twinkletail

Changing Octaves is a drama about the Pie family. It’s worthy entertainment for any drama fans. The story starts a bit slowly, but don’t let it fool you. The ending packs a strong, emotive punch, and the story finishes with a solid epilogue.

The story never gets dark or edgy. This isn’t a bad thing, but readers shouldn’t expect a sudden shift in narrative tone. In addition, the story doesn’t have clearly defined antagonists or protagonists. Again, this isn’t a bad thing, it’s just a stylistic choice that readers need to just roll with. In addition, the plot isn’t exactly canon, but it’s certainly believable. In the end, it’s worth the time it takes to read if you enjoy slice of life stories.

Appears I've read some of this before. After a refresh I can't remember why I didn't finish this. Gonna re-add it to my list. Until that time here ya go

Great story.

I'm not fond of using caps instead of italics for emphasis, but this is still just about as good as I remember it. And now there's even more chapters? It's like Christmas all over again.

After nearly three years of thinking this story was the deadest story that ever did dead, reading updates for it is so refreshing.

a new event or discovery meant only one thing; a party.

You frequently misuse semicolons. This is only one example (it should be a colon). Remember: Semicolons are used to separate two, related independent clauses (full sentences) instead of using a comma and a coordinating conjunction. If one of the parts is not an independent clause, don't use a semicolon.

“I have to bring Aquarina here.”

Welp

"Oatmeal, are you crazy?"

[poker face intensifies]

You also have a bad tendency to overuse ellipsis. After a while of using them so often, they start to lose impact.

The scene where Aquarina breaks down also felt a bit too easy, if that's the right word. I would have liked to see her try and continue the act despite showing obvious signs of breaking. I feel that would have been a more in-character way to handle the situation.

That said, looking forward to the reunion!

Aqua and Pinkie really do need to talk things out. It won't be good for Aqua to not tell Pinkie, and I think Pinkie needs some closure for the lack of letters.

Aquarina finally told Pinkie the truth behind the lack of communication from the family about earlier in the day.

Bleeeeeeeeeeech. I would have liked to have seen that conversation. I feel like it would have been an excellent opportunity for some strong character development and bonding.

Perhaps it didn't make sense from a logistical standpoint

I'm not convinced that's the right word.

All in all, I really enjoyed finally finishing this story. It was indeed like Christmas all over again.

Wow. This story's headcannon is really ancient now that you take a look back. Regardless a lovely story.
