I've always said one thing about who I am as a person. "Eternally in pursuit of the goodness in the heart." It's what called me to the show. It's why I'm here now. And it's what I love to write about.

The world-renown glassmaker known as Prism Glass is often tasked with one of Equestria's most important duties. To record its history with her art. Every piece, unique. Every pane, special. And the methods she uses to capture those moments? Even more so.

These are the stained glass stories behind each of her works.

This story has a special upload schedule, as it will only update one chapter per completion of my other stories.

This story was created to honor and commemorate my lovely artist DamayantiArts for all her continued support of my work and for her sincere expression of friendship, care, and understanding she’s given me.

This story is also being used to showcase all of her drawings as well as all of her unique and wonderful ideas she had for the story, so this is a collaborative effort between the two of us.

The Nature of Magic

By: Star Swirl the Bearded

Chapter 7: Emotional Response and Subconscious Reactions

Subsection 3: Consequences and other Phenomena

Tantabi

Incarnations of a powerful magic user's potent feelings, born and nourished by their regrets and anguish. Magical manifestations so strong, they gain a mind of their own, influenced by their original's darkest desires and most primal of instincts. Their ultimate goal is to fulfill their user's most heartfelt wish, unhindered by mental constructs like morality. Thankfully, or perhaps unfortunately, they are caged within the user's mind upon creation, and they can begin to influence and even overtake the user over time. Although cases of this happening have been incredibly rare since the magic needed to create one is far beyond the capabilities of normal creatures and ponies, there have been a few recorded cases of it in the distant past.

Ancient texts speak of a chilling theoretical possibility. From the very words of a pony who had been inflicted with one, translated to the best of my ability: "The magic mist had grown too strong. It rent the heavens of my dreams and nearly tore into the waking world. The damage it would have unleashed would have been catastrophic, had I not stopped it."

The scroll I took those words from is old, and unfortunately, the answer to stopping a Tantabus has been weathered by Father Time into illegibility, but all my research on them has given me one undeniable answer: I pray Equestria will never find itself facing even just one of them. The world would not have a hero big enough to save it then.

There exists a magical sword stuck in a stone deep within a forest. All who visit try to take it for themselves, but none prove worthy to pull it from me. As the stone that sword is embedded into, I feel sorry for them.

I don't get to choose whose worthy. Most don't even know I'm there. But I've been witness to every attempt. I know the heart of the creatures who visit and what they wish for. Most come with heartfelt desires of heroism and grandeur. Some few come to prove themselves, hoping to be better than they were yesterday.

And while many a kind soul has appeared that I personally would've proven worthy had I the option, still yet, none have had the strength to pull it. And now here comes the best of my champions. A small boy, with the most heroic of dreams and the most heartfelt of desires.

And the deepest wish to be better than he was yesterday.

Marianne Evergold is a kind-hearted girl with strange tastes, for she's the only person she knows whose favorite character is... Diamond Tiara. Snotty, bratty, childish, and vain? Perhaps. But she adored her all the same. The confidence with which Tiara carried herself was something she never had. In her eyes, Tiara was truly graceful and picturesque. And while she understood that drama needed a conspirator and Tiara was just the natural calling card for the show's writers, she never liked the idea that she was truly evil. So when the show ended its last season with her being turned to stone for her years of villainy and almost bringing Equestria to ruin... Mary could not accept it.

The only thing she could never understand was... why did they never give her a proper redemption? It always felt like they would. Yet they never did. And if by some miracle they ever did, she would never get to see it.

For she finds she awakes one day in the lands of the colorful Equestria. Far from home. So very far from friends. And so, so very far from family.

And in the horseshoes of Diamond Tiara herself, no less.

But at least she has a goal now. To save Tiara from that fate. Already with a history of bad blood halfway into the show, it would be no easy feat to redeem her as no one would allow her the opportunity after many years of treachery. But Mary vowed to never give up on Diamond Tiara and would keep to her promise come what may.

All while Tiara herself sat back silently in her mind, sealed from being able to take control of her own body again and watching it all unfold.

How do you begin to teach children the cautionary tales of, well, being overly good? When should we stop pushing our lessons of virtue and goodwill to them so they can learn the valuable lesson of self-preservation? At what point do we ever learn that things like self-interest are not necessarily bad concepts?

In the colorful world of Equestria, these questions become more poignant. As I watched my friend be reduced to nothing, I understood the perversion in those unbridled ideas.

For the Star Rod of all things to be so delicate as to break from a simple fire breath... well, not even the seven Star Spirits could have predicted that it could!
