What do you feel when you get halfway through a chapter, realize it's dumb and full of empty nothingness, so you delete it all and start again?

Just scrapped a chapter. Personally, I feel like a friggin' god, free of all chains.

It isn't really anything, and because of that, it has been ascribed to just about everything. You don't have to tell people what a "monster" is. It's synonymous with, beast, cretin, creature abomination, and all other manner of horrifying beings. Often being wild or uncontrolled, it's no wonder that many of these words overlap with words for animals. Some even are related to animals: werewolves, basilisks, the Kraken.
