I read the entirety of the Youth in the Garden, and enjoyed it a lot. You're very good at making vivid descriptions without making them overbearing on the piece. When so many things are going on at once, it can be hard to make the reader know and feel everything relevant to the setting and make it read naturally. You've got a really nice balance, and I only had one very small complaint in the piece, that has to do with Fluttershy's character.

It was that Fluttershy didn't want to let her friends call the youth an animal, as if that would devalue his significance, but I imagine she would treat animals as equal to ponykind. Maybe if her friends looked at him like he was some kind of monster or aberration, that kind of defense would have definitely been necessary.

"He's not a monster! He's a boy!" And Fluttershy not giving something extraordinary the label of monster is a powerful thing, since she tends to be afraid of things she doesn't know or understand. But I definitely understand what effect you were going for.

P.S. Is the deadline for the VA jobs extended to December? I noticed in your blog it said the 27th, but on the G-Doc it said the end of December.
