Fics I reviewed in January 2023 · 4:49pm Feb 12th, 2023

I did this for a while a long time ago, but I thought I'd experiment with bringing it back. Ponyfic Roundup on Louder Yay is and will remain an off-site feature, partly because it always has been and that's what makes it distinctive. However, I'm going to try posting a monthly summary here of the fics I review, which will go up a week or two after each month ends. To read the actual reviews, click the underlined link above each story

Cracking it open · 11:44pm Jan 28th, 2023

The term "cracking it open", for a book or an eye or whatever, is not, traditionally, standard British English usage. It's crept in in very recent years for the usual "American English gets everywhere" reasons, but it still feels a bit foreign. Maybe this is why I find it quite intrusive when a fic uses the term every bloody time Twilight opens a book. Just sayin'. :rainbowwild:

On the off-chance that anyone's wondering... · 9:21pm Jan 14th, 2023

...I'm currently working on filling in the gaps where I rated a story highly in Ponyfic Roundup but forgot to give the author the favourite on here. So if you suddenly get a fave from me for a fic nobody's read in years, that's probably why!

I mean, how can you hate a bot that produces a genius line like this? · 12:14am Dec 13th, 2022

"I just can't shake the feeling that using the Death Star for evil goes against everything I stand for as a creator," Lucas said, his voice heavy with concern.

UK PonyCon was glorious. I am so happy to have been there. Now I'm going to sleep for about 300 hours.

Off to UK PonyCon! · 8:19pm Oct 6th, 2022

I'll be leaving for Nottingham tomorrow morning and coming back on Monday afternoon or early evening. If by some miracle you're there and you see me and you recognise me and you want to, by all means say hello! Just bear in mind I have a terrible memory for people so you'll probably need to introduce yourself even if I've met you before. :twilightsheepish: I'll be absent from Fimfiction for the most part, so any PMs will be seen when I get back. Off to Equestria! (Or as

In the wake of the despicable attack on Salman Rushdie, I associate myself fully with iisaw's post. Buying a copy of The Satanic Verses (easily available from Amazon, Book Depository etc) seems like a good idea right now, even if it's not the kind of book you would normally read. If you can't afford it, see if your local library has it in stock and borrow it. Here on Fimfiction of all places, we need to be clear that the

Anyway, come to UK PonyCon · 6:31pm Aug 10th, 2022

You know how Kelly Sheridan had to pull out? Well, UK PonyCon has found a replacement. Who? Only Andrea Libman, that's who. Sorry, can't say any more, brain has turned to wibble. :yay::pinkiehappy:

Hon Mensh from the other side! · 8:38am Jul 11th, 2022

I often dish out honourable mentions ("hon menshes") for the little Flashfic 150 contests I run. So it's a novel, and let me tell you extremely pleasant, experience to be on the receiving end of one! I'm very flattered to say I was awarded an honourable mention in Bicyclette's wonderful "A Thousand Words Contest" a few hours ago for Echoes of a Song, my little

Make Your Mark was... · 10:52pm May 28th, 2022

...quite good, really. Note that I'm British and so "quite" is akin to "fairly". It wasn't as good as the movie, it wasn't as good as (much of) FiM, but it was well above the "this is a total disaster" threshold. I've recently rewatched "What About Discord?" so I feel I have a fair idea of what a truly bad piece of Pony is like, and Make Your Mark was not that. I enjoyed a decent amount of it and I'm looking forward to the series proper in September.
