Moved! · 5:21pm Apr 23rd, 2023

I'm writing this from my new place, about 20 minutes away from my old place. This one is a condo, with about 500 more square feet, an extra half bath (for 2.5 total), a tankless water heater, and 2 count 'em 2 long flights of stairs - one up from the underground parking and one from the 1st floor to the 2nd. I haven't counted the stairs yet but it definitely works as cardio. I feel bad for my poor partner. She's mobility impaired and walks with a cane, and we just signed a 30 year mortgage on a

A good story · 1:29am Jul 7th, 2022

Quoted out loud to the room as I put my dinner dishes in the sink: "I just read a good story. Like all good stories, it was too short."

It was this one. As usual I'm ages and ages late to the party.

Oh, and an update on the Luna fic. I accidentally deleted the good bones I'd made. It's well and truly gone. The upside being I did have one ancient copy so at least I've got SOMETHING left to work with.

The end of Covid? · 6:38pm Mar 6th, 2022

My crystal ball is just as bad as everyone else's. Maybe even worse.
It feels like maybe we won't need to panic anymore. That would be nice. Maybe it's just the spring in the air.

If this ISN'T the end of Covid then I have a request.
Can it pretty please morph into something like turbo Ebola that kills you within 24 hours?
The lingering is no fun.

Season's Greetings · 8:37pm Dec 26th, 2021

To whomever might read this - hello.

In the real world it's the day after the Christmas. For the last two of these, I've received more than I gave. It's kind of weird, and not really my normal speed. It's just that the "new" significant other is hard for me to shop for. I guess I'm easier, some how. At least this year she didn't spend several hundred dollars like last year. I'll take that as progress.

Dreams · 2:37am Aug 3rd, 2021

I've become lucky enough over the last several years to have a re-occurring theme in my dreams. Not every night - I don't even remember my dreams every night, and then not 100% of the time when I do remember them.

Mostly, it's the old saw of flying, with a notable twist - I'm flying via telekinesis. Very pointedly telekinesis - no wings, no tech (which seems weird if you know me much).

More than anywhere else. · 5:42pm Feb 7th, 2021

I'm not sure if I'm just naturally stoic, or maybe it's another fraction of "guyness" that actually stuck. Most of the time I think my only mentally male feature is having to carry everything out of the car at once. I even joke about it.

I don't physically feel sad very much.

That's not to say that I'm immune, I'm not. And I think I've got empathy in spades. I make a great shoulder, and a good ear. But to feel moved, personally? Just doesn't happen a lot. Not even when Ma died.

Pandemic Friends - How to be friends when you can't be friends. · 4:34am Dec 5th, 2020

It's always a little bit weird when you try to apply cartoons to reality.

I think it's about as weird when you work the idea the other way - try to apply reality to cartoons.

If they were still making MLP:FiM, and tried to make an episode about a pandemic that forced creatures to stay apart, what might that look like?
Something I'd watch, for sure.

I'll still be here. · 5:54pm Oct 12th, 2019

Not that I have a large army of followers, but even after the finale today, I'll still be here. I'm going to keep my sponsorship going for some time yet.

Sometimes, people have to say things out loud to really realize them. You can have a thought internally for ages, but until you say it, it never quite solidifies. These are the sorts of things that usually start as dreaded or horrified whispers, like my divorce after 13 years.

If you're overdue enough, it becomes due again. · 2:54am Oct 29th, 2018

I've got an admission to make, and it's appropriate for this time of year.
I'm a fan of the specific sub-genre of horror movies you might call torture porn. My favorite of the "classic" horror movies was Hellraiser. It didn't hurt that Pinhead had a lot of great quotes. I read the Clive Barker book the series was based on and was firmly "meh", but the movies were still good.

Gahhhh · 10:48am Oct 8th, 2017

I hadn't indented to post anything just now, but I just finished Carry Me Home. I haven't cried since something like '07. When he uses the Sad tag, he really means it. Still, it's well done. If you need a good, sad story, look no further.

Bring tissues though. You're going to need them.
