Canterlot, Several Months Before The Badland’s Fall
Broad Sword was nervous.
Actually, that was a gross understatement.
It had been around about two years since the whole business with the changelings and his subsequent imprisonment. When that infiltrator had informed him of his old love’s murder, regrets long buried returned tenfold. She had been on his mind the whole time until his rescue, and afterwards he didn’t believe the new hole could ever be filled.
And then he met Scarlet Snow.
He would always keep a special place for his first love, taken from him. But where the changeling would have him believe he would never love again, Scarlet had proved otherwise.
Ever since that day in the hospital they had begun to see one another for the occasional drink. And then occasional became weekly, then damn near daily. They had begun to spend very little time apart, something that Vladimir and Shining Armor, who had since left for the newly returned Crystal Empire, loved to point out to him.
It was pretty obvious to all they were dating.
Broad Sword had fallen in love with her optimism and her caring attitude, along with her strength and ability as a soldier in the EUP. Her eyes and mane, her snowy white coloured coat, everything about her was… perfect.
He liked to believe the feeling was mutual, and there was one question that could confirm it.
A hoof to the back of his head brought him back to the here and now.
“Equus to Broad Sword, are you there?” Scarlet smirked as he rubbed the new sore spot on the back of his head. “What were you thinking about?”
“Oh… you know… stuff,” was the rather awkward reply.
The Pegasus and unicorn were sitting on one of Canterlot Castle’s many balconies, the early night’s sky above them. They had a magnificent view of the land beyond Mount Canterhorn, the green fields rolling along for miles around. A table was set up for them, drinks sat on top.
“So, how many favours did you have to call in to get this little spot?” Scarlet grinned. “It’s not every day you have a date on one of the castle’s luxurious balconies.”
“Call it a perk of being Captain of the Solar Guard,” Broad Sword smirked. “All I had to do was ask.”
“Celestia is having you pull a double shift tomorrow, isn’t she?” Scarlet asked in amusement.
“I’m fairly sure she was joking…” Broad Sword hoped.
Scarlet laughed at her boyfriend’s sheepish grin. “Time will tell!”
Broad Sword looked towards Scarlet, examining her beautiful features illustrated by the bright moonlight. Scarlet noticed his stares, and couldn’t help but blush.
“What are you looking at?” she asked.
“You’re beautiful, you know that?” he said.
The blush deepened. “OK… why are you being super romantic all of a sudden?”
“What do you mean?”
“The balcony, the things you are saying, the looks… what’s going on?”
“I’m always romantic!” Broad Sword protested.
“Actually, I had you pinned as being slightly hopeless at it,” Scarlet admitted. “It’s part of your charm.”
“I’ll try not to take that personally,” he deadpanned, though with slight amusement. “Alright, there was one thing…”
“I knew it,” she muttered. “Alright, what happened?”
“Nothing, at least until you give an answer…”
Scarlet seemed confused. “Answer?”
Broad Sword gave a loud whistle, and with the signal given the moon seemed to shine brighter as the stars began to shift. Scarlet looked up in bewilderment as the distant balls of gas moved around to form letters, which in turn formed two words. Two very specific words.
Marry Me?
Scarlet sat there for a few moment, unable to form words. Slowly, her head spun until she faced her boyfriend, her mouth agape.
“How… what… when…”
“I asked Vladimir who then asked Princess Luna,” Broad Sword smiled. “I believe her words were, ‘If I said no, Cadenza would never forgive me’. So… answer?”
Scarlet’s jaw remained on the floor as she tried to form her words, finally however, she was able to pull herself together enough to blurt it out.
“Yes! Of course it’s a yes!” she shouted as she flung herself at him, the two locking into a passionate kiss.
Above them, discreetly sitting in the shadows, the Princess of the Night gave a satisfied sigh at the sight, before rearranging the stars back to their normal positions in space. However, as she spread her wings and took off away from the engaged couple, she kept the moon lit up bright, and would do so until the sun rose the next morning.
Tomorrow? Sweet! Looking forward to it!
Also, Scarlet can now claim to have one of the BEST marriage proposals ever.
All to honestly, that was beautiful.
A chapter tomorrow? YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
Aw, so sweet.
Why write a proposal in the clouds when you can write it in the stars? Beautiful...
Amazing work!
Star-writing proposals? AWWW! SO ROMANTIC! I wish that one day maybe I could get a proposal like that.
And some ship navigator somewhere had one giant heart attack when the night sky suddenly proposed.
Awesome chapter. Can't wait for the next one
hahaha so true. this chapter is great!
Oh, okay I'm glad you were not going to do something dark with one of those characters by giving us a sight into their romance and doing something unspeakable in the next chapter, because when I was half way through, I couldn't get the thought out of my head that something bad is going to happen to one of those two (or three). Happy to know that isn't the case and that you aren't such a sadistic writer as some. Also it's a bit of a shame that there isn't any more flashbacks that are expected, I was really hoping for one were they release Discord and what he has to say about Twilight's new, good old, holy, black, bug look or one for Thorax, really enjoy that changeling.
Anyway, Love this story, and can't wait for the next chapter... THATS TOMORROW!!!!

They are safe I promise, they have a baby on the way after all, I still have that scene to write...
Maybe in the sequel
Yes, prepare for Pinkie Pie, and scenes both light and dark in tone. It was rather interesting to write that one.
SEQUEL * Jumps up and down repeatedly in a circle singing the Pony Pokey *
I have no idea what was the best mlp related thing I have read or seen today was. First Nick Confalone wrote another awesome episode, making him my personal favorite writer for the show, next was season 1 of mentally advanced, episode negative 20, has finished and the next one will release in October and lastly you my good sir... thank you... BUT WHAT THE ACTUAL HELL I THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS GOING TO END ON A REALLY DRAMATIC END WITH TWILIGHT DECAPITATING THAT DAMN GREAT ARNT OF HERS AND DOING A GODZILA SCREAM AS MILLIONS OF CHANGLINGS GIVE THEIR LIFE IN THE WAR. THEN TWILIGHT CANT LIVE WITH THE GUILT OF THE AMOUNT OF BLOOD SHEAD AND GIVES DRACO HER CHANGLINGS SOMEHOW AND LIVES LIFE ISOLATED FROM EQUESTRIA AND THE KNOW LAND AND CELESTIA FEEL REALLY BAD AND THE MANE SIX FEEL REALLY BAD AND EVERYONE CANT GET OVER IT BUT A SEQUEL A SEQUEL did not come to mind, sorry i lost my cool there, don't know what else to say but I feel that sometime doing this may damage the amazing fiction and that the other will still not be as good as the original story. But hay, it's your choice, and who knows, it could be ten times better.
hopefully the rest of the main 6 live through the battle and decide to move in with twilight i mean come on its clear who crudelis is going after specifically in this upcoming attack hopefully they can defend themselves
7517139 I've been setting up the plot throughout the first story, it is connected, even if it is a new plot entirely.

You know what I'd like? A reaffirmation that they can still assemble and use the Elements.
Yes yes, I know they won't actually do anything to Crudelis because she's not altered from her normal nature, not like Luna or Tirek was. Nor is she an antithesis to Harmony in general like Discord. At best I'm thinking she'd mellow out and realize how dumb this personal crusade is; trying to make the changelings into the monsters everyone thinks they are.
Now if she gets her hooves on something tangible, like figuring out how the First Queen managed to mind-control everyling... well, at that point, Twilight's screwed. Elements can't work with 'Magic' being mind-controlled, not unless they somehow protect her as a fail-safe of some sort. (That point is debatable considering Discord messing with pony heads before. He never did with Twilight; did he just want to watch her crumble on her own or was she immune to start with?)
So cuteeeeee!
They're going to die, aren't they?
... You meanie...

And thats why its useful to have the princess of the night as your friend!
7516767 I know, just being able to look at the stars, and see that...
Thus began the rumors of Luna's secret fiancée - because who would turn down a princess?
dawww
So cuuute
Huh, that was nice.
I feel bad for the random stallions out there having a date with their loves, some might be acting a bit strange or shy. The mare presses him, then looks up at the stars. Whoops...
7675221 Maybe Luna could use a perception filter so that only these two could see it.
love over load.
Ok, i’m sorry, but whenever I hear that name in this fic, I can only see Rose Leslie aiming a bow and arrow at Kit Harington, lecturing him on his lack of knowledge.
I'm pretty sure the entire comic has been dark, like litterly the entire thing, there are some parts that aren't AS dark like the beggining where Twilight found out she was a changeling, or the time skip 2 years later, and now.
I'm pretty sure everything else is dark.
If there is ever a sequel, I really hope there is less drama and less death, gore, blood, and less life or death situations.
Also Luna doing that for them? Never imagined Luna doing something like that.
