I'm an old-school MLP fan, glad the new show is doing great.

Hi. Sorry for disappearing and not posting anything for a bit, either on the blog or story-wise. It's been... rough in real-life for me.

Season one thoughts · 3:44am Jun 26th, 2014

Well, season one has been reviewed. What did I think of it?
It's really good. There's a reason this show hooked so many so early. The characters are fleshed out and three-dimensional, in some cases more than in later seasons. Good worldibuilding, intriguing characters and good episodes all-around. Yes, there were some stinkers, and sometimes the mane Cast's behavior did not sit well with me *BOASTBUSTERS*, but still a metric ton more good than bad.

I am amazed the stuff you forget, like Rarity designing ensembles for the Gala already, or Stirrup Street. Or the Golden Apple Tree! A lot of... butt-bumping, too. Seriously, what's up with that?! Also, character traits that get horribly exaggerated... are not so much here, but the seeds are planted. Some thoughts...

* If Pinkie was like she was in season one, I'd really like her.
* Pinkie really needs therapy.
* I think I'd get along best with Applejack.
* Trixie got screwed in Boast Busters.
* Dash was a huge jerkass. The naked contempt she showed Fluttershy in Dragonshy had its own gravitational pull.
* Fluttershy was about 95% a Disney Princess. She even had an 'I want' song! :p
* The seeds of Twilight's neurosis are planted here.
* Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon is the worst and flattest character of the show.
* Hoity Toity's pretty cool. Photo Finish not so much... but she's not too bad.
* Mayor Mare needs to be impeached. :D
* Trixie really got screwed in Boast Busters.
* The Canterlot populace has gotten a bad rap.
* Rarity's got tha skills to pay tha bills.
* There are some bad cases of protagonist-centered morality in this show.

So... season one. Mostly slice-of-life with a vague Gala arc. It introduced my favorite character Trixie, had some great episodes, a handful of bad ones and ended with one hell of a subversion to the usual season finale. Tomorrow we start season two with a double-header and Discord's debut as I tally his crimes and say my piece on him. Hint... he's a really evil guy.

Now then... time for a little contest. below is an image. Caption it, if you dare. A few rules...

1. You get up to three captions.
2. No captions that are above PG or low PG-13.

There is a prize-a one-shot written by me of your choosing... with some rules.
1. A one-shot.
2. Nothing rated above 'teen' and no gore/sex tags needed.
3. No character bashing.
4. nothing too 'heavy', please. And please nothing dark!
5. There is no spoon.

I'll consider anything up to... Sunday night at about 8 PM eastern time, and announce the winner Tuesday. Good luck!

"Bass Cannon? Nah, we've got Soundwaves" (assuming that those are Soundwaves. My knowledge of Transformers is not the greatest :twilightsheepish:)

Caption, huh?

"Okay, okay, that's not what dubstep sounds like!"

implying that Octavia just told Vinyl that dubstep sounds like Transformers having sex

"And, tonight, on The Tonight Show With Twilight Sparkle we have our house band-Octavia and the Soundwaves!"

"I have Soundwaves."
"I have a bass cannon."

The band at the Grand Galloping Gala want to have a little talk with the Elements of Harmony. And they brought friends along. :pinkiehappy:

"I know some of your contemporaries bill themselves as actual robots, but this is ridiculous."

"I'm not sure how, but the robots sound less robotic than you do."

"Alright, once the Jedi and Sailor Senshi show up, we're going to kick SO much flank!"

"Autobots, transform and ROCK out!"

"Tavi, we've got another wedding to play for?"
"Nice. Who's getting married?"
"Princess Celestia ... to Optimus Prime."

"Vinyl."
"Yes, Tavi?"
"This is the last time I let you make the guest list."

"You were right Vinyl, he really has a sexy voice."

"I told you there was something wrong on those cassete recorders."
"Yeah, this is even cooler, and only for 4 bits!"
(Facepalms.)

The last thing I saw before I went Deaf.

* If Pinkie was like she was in season one, I'd really like her.
* Pinkie really needs therapy.

These two points seem related. I could imagine a chronological montage of Pinkie moments entitled "The Collapse of Pinkamena Pie."
And now I'm sad. :fluttershysad: Let's see if I can't cheer myself up.

"And yet, they can carry a tune better than you."

"No, Vinyl, we aren't getting any pet cassettes."

The Cybertron-Equestria Cultural Exchange went surprisingly well after most of the attendees either disabled their audio sensors or bought earplugs.

Hmm. Captions. Well, here's the three best I can come up with. If we get any mulligans, I might take them if I get back before Tuesday on my own machine. (I'm in the library at the moment.)

1. "When having a music war with metalheads, it's always a good idea to bring backup."

2. "Yeah, they're with us. No, we don't have a clue where their mouths are, just get them something to drink!"

3. "Yes, Megatron. The two fleshlings are in fact part of my army of interdimensional counterparts. If we'd had them earlier, our plan to control humans through music would have succeeded in ten seconds flat!"

Here's my entries for the caption contest:

"Vinyl, why exactly did you think that an army of robots would be able to convince me that your noise is actually music?"

"Vinyl, what did you do this time?"
