    Cut Story Ideas

A year has passed since I finally finished This Can't Be Happening. Quite a lot has happened since then for me and as I predicted the end of that story didn't come with much fanfare, but it was at least a huge load off and satisfying feeling to finish it after all that time. That's left me with Don't Go To Sleep, the other story abandoned by my lazy update schedule. Back when I finished TCBH I

This Can't Be Happening is Finished (Finally)!

Well, it only took me just short of 7 years, but yes I finally finished this damn story. It took me so long to finish the thing that I honestly doubt there's anyone left to read this blog, but damn it all I'm happy to have this thing done and there's a lot I want to say about it even if I'm just talking into the void.

A question to potential remaining Don't Go To Sleep readers

Something something, it's been months since my last update, something something you know the rest. I'm gonna put a fork in mentioning the wait and first talk about Don't Go To Sleep before I ramble about This Can't Be Happening in a different blog. Alright, so, with one long drawn out story finally done the question remains what to now do with the other. So to keep this short and sweet, I'm

    Laziness and Stubbornness

Hello again. It's been a while, hasn't it? How are the kids? Is the missus doing well? Good, good.

Do the impossible, see the invisible

So, judging by the whopping 7 views on my last blog post, I think it's safe to assume that a lot of my followers have either left the website by now or are tired of my shit after the terrible update schedule that was 2013 for me. Or maybe it had to do with my last post being a wall of text. Either way, I think people will be glad to hear that another update for This Can't Be Happening is out!

Update on Don't Go To Sleep(and other stuff) · 4:39pm Jun 9th, 2012

Alright so, I was hoping to get the first chapter of Don't Go To Sleep ready by this weekend, and submitted early next week. But unfortunately that won't be the case now.

Let me explain. I had a pretty certain idea of how things were going to go for the story, how the dream sequences were going to go, and how it was going to end in a twist. I wrote out the first dream sequence and it was.....meh. Some talk with Brony_Fife got me to thinking about the story as a whole, and if it would make for something entertaining and creepy enough to be a good horror story. I think the ending I had planned was solid, but the way the story had to go for such an ending to take place was kind of lacking, and might not have been worth the payoff. So I'm tweaking the story. Many things about it, in fact. The only things that aren't being drastically changed are the dreams. I'm looking into ways to improve them, especially the opening one, but I want them to remain intact, even as I change how the main part of the story goes. Even the ending is now going to be different. I'm working with ideas for how I'll pull off what I want to pull off, and it might get a bit tough, but I have a good while to think about it.

So, now by estimated time of submitting the next chapter is next weekend at the earliest. Right now I'm going to do a bit more focusing on finding further inspiration for the story, and also getting the next This Can't Be Happening chapter ready. I also want to talk about my two comedy one-shots I talked about in the last post: The Rock Goes to Ponyville and First! A troll fic and meta fic. So, it would appear that the mods are thinking of removing the ban on meta stories on the condition that they can be marked to not become featured. That is fine with me. I was planning on just making a silly little story with First!, and honestly would have been a bit disappointed if it would have been the story to get me to achieve the whole "become featured" goal of mine, knowing that I would have put a bit less time and effort in it than stuff like A Pimp Named Spikeback, This Can't Be Happening, and Don't Go To Sleep. But as of right now, the ban still exists. Since I'm taking a bit of a cool off this weekend from my other two stories, but still want to have something out this weekend, I'm going to start on The Rock Goes to Ponyville tonight, and hopefully have it done and submitted by tomorrow. Then next week will be non-stop TCBH and DGTS.

I also want to get a kind of opinion on something. Right now the story picture for Don't Go To Sleep is a picture from Lesson Zero of Twilight curled up and looking freaked out on a bench. That's all fine and good, but I don't know if it really captures how dark the story will get, and how freaked out Twilight will become in the story. I considered using a Zalgoish picture of Twilight, but I don't want to scare away potential readers with an unsettling picture. So what do you guys think? Do you think the picture I have will suffice? Is there maybe a different picture of stressed out Twi from Lesson Zero that would do better? I'm a bit stuck here to be honest. Maybe if a get extremely lucky one day, someone will want to make a picture for it(or any of my stories for that matter) one day, but I highly doubt I'll get that lucky. So for now, I'm a bit torn about what picture would effectively show what I'm going for in this story.

Oh and also, this.

I never did read whatever the hell is it you're talking about, but I'll give it a whirl :ajsmug:

164813 You mean my last blog post? Or this one. Either way, why you no read it dude :fluttercry:?

I guess I do kind of tend to rant with these blogs. Sorry about that. I'm a talkative kind of guy, and can go on about my ideas for these stories for quite a while. What I have in these blogs are mostly a condensed version of what I got going on in my mind to be honest :rainbowlaugh:

I think the lesson zero Twilight has been over used way too much. What you got to do is show readers that this story is different than the typical horror story. I'm not sure how dark this story is, but if it's really nightmarish, putting up an unsettling picture might do the trick by herding people that like a good horror story. But hey, its your story, so put up whatever picture captures its meaning. Good Luck!

164931 Yeah, Lesson Zero IS used quite a lot. Although now that I think about it, many of the creepier pictures of Twilight that I was thinking of are still her from Lesson Zero, just more Zalgo-ish.

As far as how the story goes, it IS pretty dark. I may no be showing Cupcakes style torture in it, but I still plan to try and make it unsettling and tragic. I'm currently looking for a good picture to use, because in the least, I do agree that a simple picture of her from Lesson Zero wouldn't suffice to show how dark I want the story to be.

I'm a bit of an artist myself, maybe I could draw you a picture? Just describe it to me and I'll see what I can do.

166091 Sure, that would be awesome if it's no trouble or anything.

I have a couple of different ideas that I've envisioned for it, but my favorite idea thus far involves Twilight asleep in bed in the center of the picture, with her friends standing around her bed(or flying above it in Dash's case), but they have sinister looks on their face and glowing red eyes as they look down at Twilight.

OK, that's a good start. Tonight, I'll watch an episode of MLP, then listen to this music before going to bed, then recording the dream/nightmare I have for further inspiration.
