So I take a look at the front page right? I do it quite a bit to see what new stories there are, and keep an eye out for any of the "My first fanfiction using the pony generator as a story picture and with a Mary Sue OC" stories that come around quite often to help those new users avoid future flames by giving them advice. However, I also decided to take a look at the list of popular stories on the side bar, which I don't do as often. And something catches my eye. A story called "I Hate Ponies." I click, and sure enough, it's a story about someone who actually dislikes MLP going to Equestria.
My initial thought was "Nice! I knew this was a story concept that needed to be wrote about. Glad to see someone else is trying their hand at it too." But then I look down at the comments and see A LOT of people praising the author for coming up with an original concept, and saying how his story was the first time they had ever seen a story like it. And quite honestly, reading all of those comments was starting to tick me off.
Now let me make this clear, I do not blame the author of the story at all. In a community where there are so many stories about bronies in Equestria, it is refreshing to do something different. Obviously I like the concept of an anti-brony in Equestria, I'm halfway through a story on the subject after all. But seeing all those people praise his story because they thought it was the first of it's kind when mine came months earlier than it just bums me out. The fact that his story has done decently better than mine doesn't help me feel any less bummed out on the matter either.

Well you know what? Who needs those viewers? I don't need their damn views! It was their lazy fault for not using the freaking search bar and seeing that the concept isn't anything new! I'm proud of my story. DAMN PROUD of it! I've put hard work into every chapter, and that sure as hell won't change for the future chapters. In fact, the story is just going to get better. It's going to be amazing. It's going to be epic. It's going to be so awesome that people in Cambodia void their bowels because they can feel how intense things are getting all the way from there! When someone else comes along and uses a concept you've used before and becomes more popular, you don't get bummed out. You get mad! You take your story and make it a thousand times better than theirs. They're the 6th most popular story right now? So what?!? I don't need that damn featured status anyway!

I know that feel bro. Just look at Angry Birds. It's a prime example of a game that is always praised as being "original" and "unique" when it is exactly like every other castle destroyer. No idea how it got so popular. It's not even that fun.

You know how pissed I was to learn that there were already several fics about the Mane 6 meeting a dangerous new foe when I published the first chapters of Twilight Sparkle and the Witch Baby? That story was my first foray into Dark fanfic territory, and I like to think it's rather good, too. In fact, the reason I haven't continued work on it is because I'm writing other fanfictions, but I'll return to that one soon.
So what is my point? Don't feel bad about it. Just think of your story as an addition to a specific genre (In your case an antibrony in MLP), not an "original idea". Of course, the hard part is getting everybrony else to see that...
