I'm selling myself offically... · 11:07pm Apr 6th, 2016
Hey guys,
I hope you might be able to take a look at this?
Yeah, it's a patreon and I know a bunch of you disagree with them but, because of my medical problems I can't work and...i'm just so tired of being unable to help my family that it's forcing me into a fairly bad depression. Writing is one of the few things I can do so...maybe?
I'm not asking for a bunch of money! Even a single dollar a chapter would help more then you could ever imagine! And with my update schedule at most that would be 4 updates.
Anyway, all I can do is ask... Have a good day guys. FE
I don't think there's anything wrong with having a pateron. If it's what you can do, then have at it.
It's not like you're one of those people who start a patreon with a handful of followers or only 500 subs on youtube. I've supported you before and I will probably do it again.![](https://static.fimfiction.net/images/emoticons/twilightsmile.png)
Just remind me in a few days.
My finances aren't in a place where I can really help anyone out at the moment, so the most I can really do is extend my best wishes, Foals.
3853071 Huh. Didn't realize one had to clear a certain threshold of followers to ask for financial help. What an interesting discovery. Out of curiosity, where's the line drawn? 400 followers? 500? 600? 700? I'd like to know if I qualify. Student loans and all. Don't worry, I have no plans of using it for anything but my own personal debt. No intention of using it to subsidize my own living expenses or go to a con or whatever. I just wanna make sure I know the rules so I'm playing the game right. Also, is there a chance I could get a copy of these rules? I really am intrigued by the, ahem, details of when one is permitted to do such a thing without being labeled as "trying to make a quick buck off the fandom through writing" like I've seen by some random guy elsewhere when others set up a patreon for their writing.
Any information is very appreciated
Unfortunately, I can't offer any monetary assistance (though I certainly wish the best!).
That said, I don't see how 'selling yourself' is a bad thing. It's literally what work is, so. And if someone thinks that getting (voluntary) monetary donations in return for services you're rendering, then that person probably isn't nice to be around anyway. You're putting time and effort into something, and if people want to offer payment for it, that's between you and them and no one else. And it's certainly nothing to be ashamed of! Stick to you guns, I say! :)
dont think of it as selling yourself cause its not think of it as kindly asking for donations that just so happen to fund your creative stories

It's not a literalism, it's a psychological expectation. Making a patreon with a few followers means the patreon maker's expectations are out of touch with reality as the few followers themselves each feel as if they must expect themselves to pledge a lot because obviously no one else will because of the bystander effect.
The monkeysphere theory (that human brains can only socially calculate 150~ people at a time) dictates that a follower/subscriber/member count of three-hundred is the minimum threshold for the pressure from the bystander effect to completely fade.

I am not the guy 3853360 was arguing with but i thought he was deadly serious with his skeptical query when i replied.

I know, they are both my friends but do not get along very well. Mostly I just don't want their arguments in the comments. I love both of them and thus shall choose no side.

As the blog post master can you delete comments at will?

I can, but I'd rather not if I don't have to.
3853750 if i had money i would give it.
