Raefire is indeed gone. He passed away this summer at the age of 27. For those of you who enjoyed and commented on his stories, thank you. He loved writing them and sharing them with the community. Writing was an outlet for him to express many of the emotions he kept carefully controlled in his day-to-day life. Living with medical challenges since the day he was born, he often had to accept pain and physical limitations as part of his existence -- something other people often failed to recognize, so good was he at putting it away behind a mask of normality. He cherished every comment he received, positive or negative, and used them to improve his work. He was truly an artist, always striving for that illusive perfection, but also simply enjoying the process of creation along the way.
He lives on, not only in these stories, but also in the lives of the two people he saved through organ donation. If you are not a specified organ donor, please consider becoming one, and let your family know of your intentions. In times of medical crisis, it is often hard for people to make decisions. Knowing your wishes in advance makes it easier.
We miss him deeply every day, but hold him close in our heart and memories. As we wrote in his obituary, we ask that, each day, in his spirit and memory, please help a child, object to an injustice, stop a bully, feed a hungry person, or say an encouraging word to someone you meet.
