Funny how that happens.
Two and a half beers may have helped.
Still! I've fallen down the rabbit hole of ... let's say unconventional Christmas songs. And naturally, I am compelled to share!
It's worth noting that many of these songs are fairly NSFW-ish. Both for swear words, and general holiday madness. Which, you know, is what makes them so entertaining. Kind of a more accurate representation of the holiday for a lot of folks. Often dirty and drunk and sweary, but somehow with heart behind it nonetheless.
Dig it.
Also now that I'm digging, the Killers have a lot of Christmas songs. Go figure.
Actually heard this'un on the radio today. And investigation has shown me that Shinyribs is, like, an actual, not-terrible band? They were on Austin City Limits, even!
The original version has Cindy Lauper, but I kind of like this live performance better. Mostly for the guy just playing the hell out of that sax.
I'm sure there are plenty of other irreverent and actually musically good songs bouncing around-- this is just a small selection of stuff I've found. Because The Little Drummer Boy is played out, and you know it.
I don't generally like Christmas music, but... here's a song I enjoy, both for the humor and the music itself... which is probably because it's practically klezmer.
Given this year, there's really only one song that feels appropriate to post here.
My all time favorite:
Mike
Or wait; how 'bout:
