Ten days remain for Imposing Sovereigns III, and while a few entries have come in, I suspect the bulk has yet to arrive. In order to help that suspicion, now's the point where I ask if people need more time. So, how goes it?

I still haven't been able to make time or get a solid idea for it

Extra time would help with my second idea.

I hadn't considered this contest at first, but just recently I got bitten by a story idea, and it's demanding to be written! As they do. I'm not sure it's a perfect fit for this contest (in particular, deciding which of those virtues fits is a bit of a head scratcher currently), but it does check all the necessary boxes, so in it goes! Only way I'll write it at all, making it a contest entry, the way things are going.

I think I'm okay on time - just worked out a personal schedule for outlining, drafting and polishing it, and I should be fine. Keeping it from being too ambitious, no 15K behemoth here!

While I'm here, a few technical questions. Does the ruler character with the virtue have to be the POV character? It's basically a two-character piece, so they are main either way. Also, does the virtue have to be one that always embodies that character, or can it be normally unusual for them but highlighted here due to unusual circumstances? Can it be about the collapse of a virtue that was previously strong, and how the character copes with that? (These may be the same scenario, they may not - it's irrelevant to the questions or the answers).

Regardless of how I'm doing, I've enjoyed reading the entries I've read thus far! I don't follow and read enough contests… especially when quite a few people are double-dipping with this one!

Let's take these in order:

Does the ruler character with the virtue have to be the POV character? It's basically a two-character piece, so they are main either way.

That's generally the case, but a deuteragonist can certainly work.

Also, does the virtue have to be one that always embodies that character, or can it be normally unusual for them but highlighted here due to unusual circumstances? Can it be about the collapse or a virtue that was previously strong, and how the character copes with that?

Any of these approaches can work. I hadn't considered the final option, but I do love the concept of exploring it.

I'm almost done.

No one is more surprised than I am that I’ve mange to already complete the first draft. I might actually manage to get it in on time!

Okay, I guess? Okay progress and not butting up against the deadline quite yet, but my motivation is low.

Finished but depressed that nobody read it. Like, it actually has the lowest engagement of anything I've written on fimfic to date.

Not gonna lie, between freelance work and my marathon cross-country driving tour (in OKC now, Kansas City next week!), I've had not a smidgen of extra brainspace for writing. Which is annoying, because I meant what I said about my EDM femme fatale technically-not-an-OC horse princess fave.

Then again, when have I ever written a contest fic but "a maximum of three days before the deadline and mostly in one sitting"?

I am putting off reading most Imposing Sovereign III entries until the contest closes, no matter how good or great they might be. So you might get more reads later? Seriously, sometimes contest entry lists bring some long-lived reader interest.

mine will get done with the current deadline but a longer deadline will mean it can go through another draft round and be of better quality

What was meant to be a Oneshot turned into something a bit more than one chapter. No idea if I'll get it done before time's up, but I'll still throw it out there whether I make it or not to the deadline.

FoME, I have an entry in draft form...and notes and partial drafts for several other possible entries.
EDIT: I should have clearly stated that ten days would not be enough to finish turning all of these into stories ready for the contest.

Seriously, I think people could find ways to use any amount of time you offer, but maybe you don't want this to turn into the perpetual contest either...so I guess any scheduling decision you might make has points in favor of it.

Personally, I would love a little more time. I have an idea and am working on hammering it out, but I don't know if I'll be able to finish it in ten days.

I'm nearly done myself, but I'm always down for extra time added to these things for a number of reasons, including the fact that I like submitting things well before the deadline and being only ten days away gives me anxiety for some reason which is stupid but whatever.

I always like more time to edit and flesh out an idea. That, and the fact I'm writing quite a few other stories also due around Oct. 31 too is making my participation in this contest ever more difficult.

Honestly, I think there was plenty of time in the first place, and while more time may result in more/better entries, it just ends up serving writer procrastination (myself included). We've done this in the write-offs before, and adding more time meant people only started later, with no appreciable change in quality or participation. So even though it works against me, I'd vote for keeping the deadline the same.

I am almost a month behind, and I have an idea. I think I may need a little bit more time...

I think I've got:

The basics of what I want to do figured out, so I'm hoping to have a finished story by Hallowe'en. We'll all find out together, though... :twilightsheepish:
